First Ever Rap Beef

Back in the day, real early 80's, Busy Bee was one of the top rappers in the NY. His style of rapping at that time would qualify him more as a
hype man than an actual MC these days -- strictly a party rapper, calling out Zodiac signs and hyping up the crowd.
Busy Bee was at a freestyle competition in NY around Christmas '82, and Kool Moe Dee was in the crowd. Busy Bee had a few lines saying that noone could touch him as an M.C. Someone in the crowd shouted out Kool Moe Dee's name. So then Kool Moe Dee signed up for the competition then did a sneak attack at Busy Bee.

I meant that Kool Moe Dee's rhyme was not a freestyle. He had that joint on deck for Starski. KMD said it himself. He had been waitin' a while for that chance to get at him because he felt Starski popped too much crap. The opportunity just presented itself.

it was a freestyle because it was prewritten which is how freestyles worked then,its different from on the spot freestyles. a freestyle is prewritten and on the spot not just one way usually a freestyle that is prewritten are sets of written pieces but not a full song usually ranging from 1 or 2 minutes. an on the spot is also a freestyle, which only a few use this technique. in the book how to rap, kool moe dee and big daddy kane says a freestyle is prewritten pieces that arent full songs. a 16 bar is the minimum to a prewritten pieces.
