I'd say the rubbing was caused as a result of letting the engine continue to lose rpm and not cutting the fuel off which made the egt rise high enough to cause the parts to make contact. I would be looking deeper in to what caused the engine to lose rpm, battery, fuel pump etc rather than inadequate clearance being the cause.

Thanks for your reply! The engine has now been fully stripped to try and determine the cause. The fuel injectors seem fine and fuel pressure was completely stable when the rpm dropped. The clearance between turbine and NGV was measured at ~0.25mm which would reduce under forward thrust load, so I think it was just too marginal on clearance! 0.5mm extra clearance added now and hoping for better luck after rebuild 🤞🤞

NGV has probably warped a little, Radial inflow engines seem to have these problems. It sounded really good

Yeah it’s either that or not enough clearance to the turbine. I have partially stripped it and found some quite big rubbing spots that are the cause of the problem! Will skim it back a bit 👍🙏🏻
