Finally made good on a goal I set about 30 years ago; I purchased and flew my own ultralight. CGS Hawk.

You didnt include the landing and your reaction?? Great memory. You should be able to relive it. No critical comments from me bro. Congrats! We would like to hear your piloting backstory tho.

Thanks. My GoPro was set to cut off at a certain time and it did - just as I was coming in for a landing.

Holy crap. I thought you were never getting off the runway. Seems underpowered or not proped with correct diameter or pitch. ??

Right there with you bro! Hopefully you're still at it. I just bought my MX Sport last year and did my first few patterns already.

Kinda low. Doesn't give you much time to work an issue or pick a LZ. Good video buddy.

Great video. I would love to have a Hawk. Do you have any prior flight training. Where did you find that plane to buy.
@Flockaduck3 жыл бұрын
No prior training (except reading a book). Found it on Barnstormers.com.

First flight as in your first flight or first flight after training ?

Flying at that low of an altidude will get you dead. Flying 101... get high enough (at least 500 ft. AGL) to scout for emergency landing areas in case of engine falure you'll have time to decide on a spot insead of ditching into a tree ar a house. and never stop scouting! FAA rules were broken from the beginning to the end of this flight . Where's the landing? hope you didn't break anything..

Ya got some balls of steel my guy Flying without any prior training, and I love it! Let me kick it up a notch: I'm building my own ultralight design while having no prior training?
@Mike-012342 жыл бұрын
Problem with some of these ultralights they can bite you if fly them uncoordinated in a turn. The Challenger is one don't want to turn them uncoordinated in the pattern could easily stall spin. They also get very sensitive light wing loading easy to get into pilot induced oscillation on take off and landing. That has lead to people being killed doesn't take much nose dive it legs are going to take lot of the impact.

You literally cut off the landing?! Dangit.

Not a good first flight example.
@flyboy213453 жыл бұрын
Not to discourage you or anything - I don’t know your piloting history, and I’ve heard from other CGS pilots that one notch of flaps can help the glide ratio. But if I were to do a first flight it would look like a few crow hops down the runway then a tiiiight pattern around the field with maybe a little more altitude than normal. Just to be on the safe side...
@aqua-tour53103 жыл бұрын
Obviously not a safe flight , realy not an exemple . Altimeter not working, flight way under 500 ´ ( way below the legal limit) all the way, too low to glide to the runway. Not a good exemple to stay alive :-( .

@@Flockaduck DUDE! I thought it was AWESOME! All the negative comments are by lets say "Well off" people that can afford 10k in pilot school.. you did great and didnt crash! nice job you will continue to improve..

@@Raven4122 no, they were right. And Kesler is a smart guy and didn't take the criticism as an insult. He did great handling it with zero flight experience, but the others were giving him safety advice to help him in the long run. All constructive criticism is good criticism.

As a licensed pilot with a keen interest in ultralight aircraft, I would not even consider a solo flight without proper instruction first! You read a book and up you go, what’s next , open heart surgery? 😖
