I am a landscaper by trade, and l can tell you that even though you did an amazing job putting down the fabric the weeds will still grow mulch is an organic material, which will decompose and turn into organic matter which in turn will let weeds grow. Fighting nature is a losing battle. I find it therapeutic pulling small weeds that's when l get my best ideas.

I’d recommend not using weed spray in the veg beds because it’ll stay in that soil. Boiling water or just hand pulling them is a better alternative if you can. Yard looks amazing

Aww, Taylor, you're so darn cute, I really didn't know that about the landscaping fabric either, we all live and learn, right? Your yard will be beautiful again this year just like it was last year. What's the temp there? Here in Alabama, it's 79 degrees, kind of warm but nice. As usual I loved the video,,,

Hi 👋 I used to use landscape fabric too. Unfortunately like you mentioned it kinda sucks lol. So now I use cardboard boxes 📦. I remove all the labels and anytape. Any tbh it’s awesome and free. It’s biodegradable. Try it on the vegetable patch! Ttyl ✌️

We use the garden fabric in some areas of our yard and have for many years, it is great when you are starting out. Gardening in a new area is not easy the first few years. You will get the hang of it. Missed Jeff and Parker today. You are investing a lot of sweat equity in the house and yard and you will reap the benefits over time. Y’all are the cutest, as usual. Enjoy the springtime, it will be gone in a flash. 🌞💙💙🌞

I just plant too much (cottage garden) and shade out most of the weeds. Plus lots of mulch in spring keeps them down. Plus once you fall in love with a garden pulling out weeds is kind of fun. NEVER POISON...

Jeff, another thing you can use, and we did this back in the 60's and 70's before landscape fabric was around. My Mom used the old newspapers. Just save the Sunday papers as those tend to be the thickest. You will have to redo it every year as the newspapers do compost and are biodegradable.

I think you’re doing a great job with your garden. I have a small garden and I’m an amateur so I had no idea that landscaping fabric is such a hot topic! I’ve used used wood chip mulch but there’s probably issues with that also. And as I live further north and have a short garden season I often just leave the weeds alone. Love your videos!

Great Job Taylor I still have to till up our garden, but with our weather being what it is we shouldn't plant till after mother's day, from what I see in the video your yard is going to be beautiful, please keep us posted on your progress, again Great job....

you can easily add fertilizer and vitamins at base of plants and same with worms. I'm sure there are already worms around the plants. worms will even eat the mulch once they start to break down

I'll comment before I get too far into the video. DO NOT put bushes up against the house. They retain water, which causes rot AND the are a haven for bugs who like damp areas, and pesticides are a no no. Love you channel and videos, just throwing out some advice.

You said it, landscape fabric is bad. I wouldn't use weed blocker. Doesn't really work, the weeds will grow through it anyway and it makes them more difficult to pull out. Better idea is to plant an understory plant like violets. They'll keep the weeds down, provide ready made fertilizer as their leaves die off and smell great when they flower. Happy gardening Taylor. Cheers, Paul.😁👬🌈❤️

This isn't hate, I am very passionate about gardening and land stewardship, so I thought I would give my two cents, especially because it is easy to follow the status quo in modern industrialized gardening, and open dialogue doesn't hurt. Personally, I never use landscape fabric, to some degree because of the harm it does to a comprehensive environment, but also because there are many other natural solutions. I find that if one plants heavy with plants that they actually want in their garden, the desired plants tend to outcompete any weeds that germinate in the garden beds. Planting thickly shades the soil which retains moisture, therefore making your hydrangeas less reliant on your water bill, and it prevents new weed seedlings from getting the light they need to survive. Plus, who doesn't want more beautiful plants for a lush garden? I think groundcover plants are really underrated in this regard because they are extremely effective at crowding out weeds, and because they add more for insects and birds than just ground covered with mulch and fabric. Additionally, groundcovers can be incredibly beautiful on their own, and hardly need any care whatsoever. I live in Upstate and some of my favorite native groundcovers include Wild Ginger, Bunchberry, and Foamflower (Tiarella). I also like Lily of the Valley and Lamium, which aren't natives, but are very beautiful. Also, you should consider a winged weeder as a non-synthetic alternative to weed control. They are easy to use and don't take much more time than it would take you to spray.

Was interesting, Taylor. I could tell you were working hard. I'm not into gardening. Planted a coupla tomatoes last Spring(had to replant because of a late frost)and they were a lot of trouble trying to keep those🤬👺☢️💀tomato worms off of them. I did not get a single tomato so am not gonna plant this year which POes me because I love fresh tomatoes.
@thomasschrader82722 жыл бұрын
You should keep trying! If you don't try you will never get fresh tomatoes. Just take what you learned last year and apply it this year for a better crop. Gardening is a learning opportunity through failure.

“He’s working nine to five” to pay for Taylor’s green thumb, the lawn services and other household amenities as his part of s working couple. Or he auditioned and was cast in a long running Broadway hit, in the chorus! Likely, as I said, he’s working. One feature is that have a huge front yard compared to the backyard which unbalances the private space. And no basement, but is that due to a water table in the area. In the Midwest you always want a basement (until it floods or you realize how much junk you’ve got down there (and no, that’s not a euphemism for anything male!!!) ❤️😅

How odd. I’m much further north than you (in the UK) but our hydrangeas are much more leafed up than yours. I love hydies. Your garden is slowly beginning to look more established, which is always nice. It takes longer where there’s a proper winter than further south where they simply don’t understand real winter weather! If you didn’t have too many weeds last year, it’d pay to cover and mulch, because the few weeds will have seeded or pushed out roots (if that’s how they propagate). Just a thought. And manure water will permeate it if you manage it. A barrel with manure in it will become manure water. Or you can buy liquid fertiliser.

I was very impressed at start of the video was the weed-barrier fabric that was already put down. I’m not an expert but for most things have both positives and negatives. It is not like you had the entire outside covered in fabric. Also it is probably better than too much insecticide.
