Pulled a 12 ft disc that was sitting in a field for 3 years. Just hooked up and put it in low 4x4 and just went for it. Took it to the other end of the 1/2 mile field like it wasn't there. 1993 4x4 3/4ton automatic trans, now has 537000 kms 30 years later.

537,000 miles on a gasoline ENGINE??? That's gotta somewhere on the RED plant cuz NO gasoline ENGINE, & rarely a diesel gets those miles on a single engine without first doing a few engine rebuilds along the way. So yeah one CAN get those miles ONLY with engine rebuilds along the way because otherwise it's just not possible & we're not even talking a trans R&R & 3rd member plus all the suspension stuff, various radiator stuff, all the rubber pieces, etc etc because with those miles that's lots & lots maintenance & a whole lot more. Even if maintaned well, stuff breaks & with extremely high miles, that's lots of replacing stuff. I'm sure there's lots of replacing stuff you're leaving out. Not saying that you CAN'T achieve high mileage, I'm saying to get there that you HAVE TO HAVE lots & lots of work done on it because you still have to replace lots of stuff to where you have to replace everything everything on any vehicle you have irregardless of make or model & whether car or truck. Just an oil change & filter every 5K miles & all it'll still fall apart over time. Essentially, over time you'll be buying a new vehicle for replacing everything except for maybe the frame as everything else breaks or falls apart. Otherwise I'd have to compare the engine is the same from the factory, same 3rd member, same everything else to believe it's true. Even my own preferred make wouldn't do 525,000 plus miles even with diesel unless it's rebuilt & restored every, maybe, 175,000 if you're lucky

The 5.9L Cummins was built for farm equipment and other purposes. Dodge didn't have a diesel engined p/u unlike the other big 3 makers, so approached Cummins. The rest is history...

Not exactly. They went to Chevy first and even built a few chevys with Cummins before they got with dodge

Ford borrowed the best engine,from Navistar. 7.3 was still too much for Ford front ends.😅 Dodge and Ford never had a great automatic transmission.

They had their own for a while, bigger trucks, mostly, then they tried Perkins, followed by a few with a Mitsubishi diesel.

@farmerbill68558 ай бұрын
Nice toy, it's geared too high, needs another transmission. Truck's not nearly heavy enough for tillage work. Vertical tillage aspect wasn't cutting up the trash making it plug up. Doesn't take much of a tractor to pull that through plowed ground. Looks like a fun day though.
@rubitracks8 ай бұрын
You’re right. I think if I regeared it with 5:13 ratio in the axles it would be slow enough. Discs are worn down also, I couldn’t get it down enough to drive what’s left deep enough to cut. My hitch should have been a couple inches lower.
@ramrod95567 ай бұрын
Even if you gear it down, the differentials can't take the loads. I had a buddy that raked his hay with a 3/4 ton diesel 4X4 and even that light work took out his rear ends. When you look at the size of the gears in even a small tractor it makes sense why his blew up. The ol' Dodge sure looks good pulling it though.
