Our old chopper boxes were 50 years old when my dad stopped farming and still in great working order

I used old equipment for a long time, even after we grew a lot. There are ways that are off the beaten path, and in many ways, a newish farmer can be a real sweet spot. What we do is partner up with new farmers when we can. They go out and find ground to rent, and we custom farm it, and they operate for me. I don’t short change them on pay and benefits either. I have 2 guys in 40’s-50’s where they are from legacy farm families, but their is no defined transition, and so many siblings, aunts and uncles etc…who don’t do much, or anything at all for the farm who are going to be in line with their hands out, that they think I have more to offer them. Our farm is its own entity, it owns itself. The only thing my kids inherit is a really good job, and once a farmer puts in his 20, he gets as much say as my own flesh and blood.

Cool and rainy, the exact opposite of what we get. No rain and temps over 90 degrees. Old of new, having more equipment is good for you.

Gotta be cutting hay down there already?

Looks almost like me when I come home from an auction, I just don't buy a lot of equipment yet. 😅😅

Auctions are dangerous. . . Haha

That looks like nice new equipment to me. 👍

You guys getting in the fields up there?
@farawayfarm25208 ай бұрын
@@e.a.bfarms Not really. We got less rain than you did but it's wet yet. I saw where a guy spread fertilizer on hay ground today but I certainly couldn't disk anything yet.

Yeah the drought sure turned around quickly. Those boxes look pretty modern to me. Nice luck with those tires. Good to have your own gear. Are you gonna make a silage pit?
@e.a.bfarms8 ай бұрын
Hard to believe a 1999 chopper is 25 years old! Haha. We will continue using silage bags for the forseable future.

Good looking boxes and chopper. We'll be on the look out 1or2 decent boxes. We do have the chopper. Lol

I almost went past your place to pick up a chopper! You are in a great area to be in the market for chopping equipment! It all over out there.
@ohrmundtsimmentals8 ай бұрын
@@e.a.bfarms yeah there were a bunch of choppers within an hour of a couple months ago. Surprisingly we got ours at the local Swiderski dealer which usually is not the cheapest. Most of the choppers in the area only had the hay heads.

That 824 corn head is one heck of a nice head, I bought one, attached to an 892 cutter, to replace my old 890 cutter and what ever head it had on it, and it was well worth the money. I can cut way faster with very few plug ups. I bet with a 900 cutter it would be even better, you don't have to say, but I'm just curious, what you had to give for the chopper and head?
@e.a.bfarms8 ай бұрын
I should be in the chopper and both heads around 8-9k by the time I'm done.
@seth17048 ай бұрын
@@e.a.bfarms you will like it, I'm sure it will pay for itself by not having to pay custom rates to get it done 👍

Call adkins equipment in Detroit lakes. I'm betting he has a shaft

Got one from the chopper shop in WI. Them and Joe's machinery in PA have about anything a guy would need I think.
