I’m so glad to have found your channel! I’ve been home schooling now for 8 years and I feel like if I could do it all over again I’d do it so differently 😣 I’ve learned so much and how I teach my youngest will be so different than how I approached education with my older ones.

Hello! I agree that there are so many things to learn that we can’t possibly learn it all before our kids leave the house!

I would love a list of the books you put in your 1st graders basket for them to read. Also, can you do just the books for Beast Academy? It looked like an online game when I was looking at it before

I just do the books for 1st grade. They work for a READING first grader or for mom reading with a first grader. I do the online BA for my Level 2 and older - sometimes Level 2 is second grade but some kids don't get there until 3rd grade - which is great!

In one of your videos you mentioned the whittling book you use and the knife. I would love to give both those are try. Can you let me know, I can't find it now.

Here's the knife we used: amzn.to/3Q3Wm8K and this is the book we have: amzn.to/3rsxlus It's best to just start with kid shaving off the bark of a stick to get the hang of it. We also did soap carving first with butterknives to get us started

Thank you for sharing Joy! Does your first grader join in on family subjects?
@joycherrick Жыл бұрын
Yes they do
@shelby5623 Жыл бұрын
Do you do all those subjects everyday??? And when?! That seems like a lot for one day. Even if they are 5 minutes here and 10 minutes there. I feel like that is a lot of jumping around or trying to reengage. Maybe it is just my kids but they just want to be outside all day. Maybe I could bring a book outside to them. Haha Oh! Also, how often do you have a 1st grader record/notebook/write? That is a struggle over here for sure! Maybe we aren't doing it enough to get a rhythm 🤔

The only subjects EVERYDAY are Reading practice, handwriting and math - the rest are on rotation ONCE per week!

I'm curious what you use to get ready for Beast Academy Level 1. Do you recommend anything before that, or just counting?
@joycherrickАй бұрын
@@budgetnutritionist I jumped straight into it with my first grader - we are in 1A right now but I try to take it super sloooow and draw out the games and counting and 100s chart familiarity. And writing numbers 1-20 etc. it really depends on the child! I did Math Mammoth 1st grade either one of my students and she wasn’t ready for BA 2 so we started back at 1A and that was great for second grade and for her. She’s almost ready for BA 2 and she’s in third grade. This is normal for normal kids to be one grace level behind the number ie 2nd grader in BA 1 (for normal kids bc it’s a gifted program)

Do you recommend the My Bookhouse books during rhos grade? I'm starting first grade for one of my kiddos in January and still planning.
@joycherrick Жыл бұрын
I love reading through those books! I typically read through the first three aloud because the stories are shorter and can be heard in one sitting. The other books have longer stories that need a couple of sittings for a younger child to sit through.
