Oh my goodness, my son did the exact same thing starting all his letters at the bottom! After a year of struggling with where to start letters and how to form them correctly I finally just gave up on manuscript and we're doing cursive (which ALL start on the bottom!!! ALLELULIA!.. lowercase of course). Cursive is actually clicking so much better. I wish we had just started there to begin with.

We love AAR! We used level 2 with my youngest last year and she went from just knowing K sight words to reading, totally amazing!

The writing gets me everytime. "I know what you said mom but I am doing it my way". I have looked into AAR but haven't pulled the trigger on it

We have all about spelling level 1 to use next year and I keep going back to wanting to try AAR level 1 with it. Gah I maybe just need to get it. We do have TGATB which we love so maybe looping with that maybe the answer for us.

He loves doing handwriting wrong...haha! There are a couple letters that I've never ended up writing the way my mom taught. I'm left-handed and it's a lot more natural to draw the horizontal strokes in an opposite direction from the way most programs say to do it.

I would love to hear more about your Spanish curriculum! My girls are also 5, will be 6 in November. This year they'll be doing some kindergarten and 1st grade also. I love homeschool for that reason. I've also found that one of my girls is picking up things a lot quicker than the other and I love that I'm able to work at their own pace for each child.

I'm so surprised about you math curriculum. Since you have used both curriculums do you think right start math is better than math with Confidence? I went back and I watch your video about Right Start Math and the seem very similar. I am between this 2 curriculums but I haven't decided yet.

Great question! I go back and forth myself. My conclusion is they are BOTH great. In comparison, Right Start is more pricey, so if you can make it work, or if you’ll use it for more than one kid, I say go for it! But MWC is an incredible affordable option! I may be of no help, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

Last year I did the Good and The Beautiful K Primer. (It didn’t take the whole year) And Explode the Code, Now I’m Reading Books, Bob Books, and More Before Five In a Row book list. I just read one of the books with him a few times a week.

Looking over TGATB primer it seems to have some math, did you do that in addition to Math With Confidence?

Yes, I did do both! The math in the primer was pretty simple and didn’t take long at all.

Perfect! And you feel it set him up well for AAR? Have you ever done the AAR Pre-reading program?

We LOVE Explode the Code. There is a primer set of books too that I start them on first (Get Ready for the Code, Get Set for the Code, Go for the Code). I recommend getting the Teacher books for explode the code too. They really help expand the scope of what the kids are learning (includes sight words, writing practice, grammar, etc.)

Thank you!! I used the Get Ready, Set, Go, for my 2nd born! My youngest did TGTB K, so he was ready for Level 1. I just heard about the teacher books for Explode the Code and they sound awesome!

@@JoyfulNoiseLiving I am using Rightstart B next year for the same reason. I have all the supplies. Rightstart put out videos to help guide you through the level, so I feel like much more confident to teach this to my first grader. I think I started her too early (she was 4) and for some reason didn't go back to it. Thanks for the video.
