First Hand look at using the Bionutrient Meter in the garden. Measuring nutrient density.

Today, Patti is using the Bionutrient Meter to measure the nutrient values of freshly picked yellow zucchini. We found out how many antioxidants were in the fruit before we ate! The location is Agrarian Food Web backyard garden Hinsdale, MT. The first three yellow zucchini came from the Agrarian Food Web growing beds and zucchini harvested from Park Place Garden which is part of Community Gardens of Great Falls, River City Harvest awas tested the day before. Patti compared the two test results..

Hi John, Yes. The community garden zucchini measured 75 polyphenols, 36 BRIX, 56 antioxidants, 53 BFI (Bionutrient Quality Index). The sample from my regen practices 98 antioxidant, 47 BRIX, 69 BFI. That sample did not give me a polyphenol score, I am not sure why sometimes the test gives a score for the polyphenols sometime it does not??? The end results zucchini tasted great!

Hi Patti, If I had the opportunity to buy a bionutrient meter today, would you recommend it? I could get one secondhand, but I don't see lot of people talking about them and I wasn't sure if the technology really evolved into anything useful. Thanks for your thoughts. :-)

Do you have a market garden? I would get it if you is not too expensive. You can gain a lot of knowledge as to how much the vegetables you test are measuring in Polyphenols. Which should tell you a lot about how healthy you are getting your plants and soil. Be prepared for a lot of variance. It does take a time commitment to do the measuring. If you like citizen scientist activities, I think having a meter would be great.

I was gifted my meter, but if you contact them I am sure they will let you know the cost and the availability. They have had more orders than they can make the last I knew. You my have to go on a waiting list.

Bio coat gold, spectrum DS, planters solution. Rejuvenate is what I use regularly. I have used other products as needed. Seed treatment on every seed and treats plant. WHere do you live Dennis?

So pleased to find you. I have relocated from Sacramento CA to Las Cruces NM now to Carthage MO. Gardened in all. Most time in CA, known as breadbasket of the world at one time, learned to build sands of NM to produce fruit and vegetables successfully now challenged by colder climate ofSW Missouri. If you can garden successfully in MT I am encouraged. Thank you for teaching us.
