when he fell asleep in your hand... that must have been a great thing to witness. I almost cried, it was so beautiful watching how he trusted you. Animals are incredible.

It is incredible. I had to handraise a baby bird from 2 weeks old this year. Barely any feathers, and she kept falling asleep when I fed her. It was rather funny and cute to watch. And when you see them all grown it's like "I watched this one grow up. Look at her now." And you can't help but feel proud of them xD

Its good to whistle daily to the eggs some 3-4 days before their hatch time, so when they hatch they already recognise your whistle

They also need traction on the floor because their legs can get formed in a split position from sliding. There’s so many things about this video I would have done differently but it was years and years ago I hope you have learned more about Ducks by now if you’re going to have them around
@jillianlacey11273 жыл бұрын
Um imposter, now ask the duck how he would squish into that egg agian, store packaging at a whole other level! I have firtilized duck eggs right now in my incubator and I'm so excited, I didnt check when this video was made but if you could, and you show us heating lamps, and what to do after the ducks dry, and what to feed them, and when they can go outside, thank you

Ducks are one of the only animals that starts making it normal noise from birth (some while being hatched). That cute 'chirp' is duck radar, lets other ducks know where they are, and, ironically, the 'adult' female version of it is a constant loud noise to attract drakes attention to breed with them. Drakes don't make noise.

The only bad thing is they poop alot
@IsabellaFondino9 жыл бұрын
HatersGonnaHate Yep. As long as you confine them to a surface that is easily replaced, such as newspaper, it can't be that bad.
@katt46509 жыл бұрын
Isabella Fondino Trust me, it is really bad. I took care of one until he could be released back into the wild. Ducklings poop every 30 minutes, you have to constantly change the newspaper. Its not as easy as you think it is.

you cant relese it or it will die
@LokiixWolfheart10 жыл бұрын
Actually, all they really had to do was wait til it got dark and put it under its mother. Most birds don't reject their young after humans have touched them due to lacking a sense of smell.
@jonbennett515410 жыл бұрын
okay thank you for telling me that tip i thought that the mother would reject it
@LokiixWolfheart10 жыл бұрын
jon bennett You're welcome. It's a pretty common misconception.
@Dinoman987710 жыл бұрын
Korbin Mondschien The comment may be a month old, but the video of this duckling hatching said the mother abandoned it and another egg after the first seven hatched. It was over a hundred degrees that day and she needed to get the babies to water. A lake that is 1/2 mile away. So the mother would not be likely to recognize the chick, which also imprints on the first thing it sees.
@LokiixWolfheart10 жыл бұрын
Dinoman9877 That does not make even the slightest bit of sense. She can't count. If they had slipped the duckling under her at night she would never have noticed an extra. No, ducks aren't stupid, but they really aren't THAT smart either. They also have little to no sense of smell, so can't identify them by scent. There are very few birds and possibly no waterfowl that do that. That only worry here is that the imprinting could have impaired the duckling's ability to follow its mother. Which is a slight possibility, but they can re-imprint. I've seen it happen before.
