Was a labour of love for me.wanted the kit since 1971, at the time I was too young, got back I to the hobbylas couple of years, so thought why not. Stripped all the chrome parts, they are copper backed so took ages, then used alclad to re chrome. Did a lot of upgrading, like rad mesh, radiator, cables piping, spark plugs etc. Will put a link to my video of finished build. Really enjoy your builds.

Great revue! Things keep springing into my mind as remember them! The kit I had back in the day came with all the engine/ supercharger chromed! And bodywork moulded in green and black!

This was a kit of my dreams. Never bought one in case they became nightmares!

Good review, I can attest that this is the best kit I have ever made. I built it in 1994, and made it using Humbrol Brunswick Green and one or two other colours. It sits in a glass case at the top of my collection.

Hi Jason, I started this kit way back in time but unfortunately I didn't ever finish it. In those days it was all brush painting and I struggled to get a good finish on the chassis and I knew I was never going to do the body justice so I gave it away to a charity shop. If I remember correctly the plastic was moulded in green back then and from what I can remember it was very brittle. Very much looking forward to you building this kit and thanks once again for a thorough and honest review. Best wishes Vic.

Hi Jason, Thanks for another great First Impressions. This would be a great kit to super detail. For 1971, It's a really nice kit, but with some extra work it could be as good as any kit molded today. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff

Yes, the part sticking out below the radiator is the supercharger. The windscreens folded down and frequently had cloth covers to protect them so the non see through windscreens parts. Humboldt started selling a Chrome spray that is very good and affordable. They didn't when they originally produced the kit. Also, most of these Bentley's had a tonneau cover over the back of the body. The "gear thing" is probably the flywheel for the starter.

Don't know what happened to my initial comment, it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, brilliant first impression Jason, i've contemplated buying this kit for a while so may just have to now. Thunderbird Models do a vinyl mask set, TBM 004, which i think is available through Hannants.

I've always loved the "dig" that Ettorre Bugatti gave to this racer. He said that "Bentley builds the fastest trucks in Europe". I have the General Mills boxing of this kit, and hopefully one day soon I'll get to start it. There is a fantastic build of this kit on Model Car Magazine's build forum from a few years back.

Hi! I had the first release of this kit! I spent many hours re-spoking the wheels with plastic sprue!!! Then “family” came along!! , and I packed it away for later! 🤔.Big mistake! got it out a few years later and found that most of the wheels had fallen apart due to basically age deterioration! (Rubbish spue) , got so “cheesed “ with this I threw the rest out!!!🤷🏼‍♂️! Might look at it again now!!

The two tone bodywork is due to the main “bucket” area being cloth/canvas covered!

The original car would not have had shiny chrome but nickel plate anyway. Not quite as brilliant but a bit “warmer” look. Hard to tell from the photos but the springs most likely would have been wrapped with leather. They greased the leaves and would wrap them to keep the grease in and dirt out. Looks like a very serviceable kit for its age. Given the large scale some research would be in order to get all the little details correct. Wouldn’t be a major detail beast given the era. Really nice review!

Totally agree it's definitely a scratch build candidate. I think I have seen leaf springs frapped before, I am sure there is lots of info to find. thanks for watching.

I've seen so many people modify this kit over the years, using wire to make real spoke wheels, totally modifying the engine, making leather seats.I feel if I buy it,I would be driven to attempt to build it like those other modellers, and find myself over my head! 😳

Hey!! I am looking to build this kit with my dad for Christmas and I was wondering if any one of you more experienced builders could help me prepare a list with the tools, paints, glue, etc. I would need to complete it (not professionally but just so it looks ok). This would be my first kit but it really is my dads favourite car so I wanted to go for the challenge. I would really really appreciate some support from you guys because, since it is a surprise, I can't ask my dad :))

Hi Jason , like you I have long had a hankering to buy this kit but it's always been a bit rich for me, I am still of that opinion , it is overpriced, especially considering the age of the kit, so for me it will remain tantalisingly out of reach. I do not mind spending money on on modern good value kits, such as the Airfix 1/24th spitfire , which I have boughtbut this old kit will require a lot of work and simply costs too much. Happy modelling.

Great video on a classic Airfix kit. When you come round to building it, you should watch this video first, it has some amazing close up shots of the car ( though this one is a high end Misko model itself )kzbin.info/www/bejne/iorXdJ2Qqs-ieqs
