First impressions review of the Asics Magic Speed 2
The Asics Magic Speed V2 launched around the same time as the popular Metaspeed Sky+ did. But how does the Magic Speed fit into your rotation?
In this video I’ve taken them out for a tempo run, to get a first impression of how They actually perform.
Shoe specs:
7mm drop (31mm heel / 24mm forefoot)
238 grams (EU size 42.5 / US9 / UK8)
FF Blast+ midsole foam
New Full Lenth Carbon plate
Upper made of 50-75% recycled materials
AHAR+ outsole
My own verdict: Great choice for tempo days. The upper feels breathable and the sizing have improved, being true to size in my US10. Roomy toebox IMO, but you can lace up to better fit your needs (loosen or widen the lacing).
Feels very durable. I would guess you could get over 400km in it, but time will tell. Outsole definately gives a good grip, even on gravel. Feels very stable and the FF Blast outsole is very forgiving both when you pick up the pace and when you take it easy.
The carbonplate can be felt at tempo pace, giving that extra ‘pop’ from around pace 4:00/km.
A great upgrade from V1. An entirely different shoe, still feeling lightweight both a lot more comfortable.
I’ll keep this one in my rotation! Marketed as a competition/tempo shoe, it fits the bill. Wont use it at raceday though, but everything other than that this a keeper. Especially for the pricepoint.
