Thanks for the review! It's hard to find anything outside of a 5 or 8 wt

How would this rod handle say intermediate short head (pike lines) and larger flies?

No problem at all. I use Airflo 375 grain Sniper 9 wt. lines on it with no difficulty and those lines can chuck pike flies with ease.

looking to get a NRX for salt surf and some inshore bay in my skiff boat my main thing is i want it to have power and cast far ...i see a comment you tried the Asquith.... so pretty much the same then not a night a day difference.. so the Asquith would be better to use on a bit heavier fly line since its a bit stiffer ?

I have the NRX+ salt in 8 and 9 wts. plus I had a demo Asquith 8 wt. for a couple of years. I generally recommend the NRX+ as it's a more tolerant rod both in terms of lines and casting. The Asquith will deliver more distance (not a lot more though), but like a thoroughbred, it requires deft handling and the right line. Get it a bit wrong with the Asquith and the NRX+ will easily deliver the better result.

Have you tried the Asquith? Curious to hear your impressions. Nice casting, BTW.

Only the 8 wt. not the 9

Very similar rods with virtually the same power and distance. I find the Asquith action to be a little bit stiffer and a little bit more oriented toward the tip, compared to the NRX+.

What kind of line are you going to run for those 100 plus footers?

Same ones I always use on my striper trips, the old Airflo 40+ Coldwater Salt. As soon as we get some decent weather, as in the wind isn't howling (I live in the flatlands, the wind always blows) I'll get a video out on it. The wind makes an absolute mess of the audio.
