I visited the War Museum some 20 years ago, and i have no words to describe the atrocities documented during the Vietnam War. Back then, HCM was less touristy, and the Museum had few visitors. The museum supervisor asked if i could sign in my visit on a huge registrar and offer some words of my experience, which i did with shaking hands and evidently it effected you both profoundly as well. I am 60 and a seasoned traveller, but HCM War Museum is one place i never have the guts to revisit. They say we must reflect upon our past to look forward into the future. May peace be upon us All. 🙏

During the Vietnam war, not only American GI abused, commited in humanely crimes against Vietnamese and yet We Vietnamese still welcome them with open arms, that tell you We Vietnamese are very forgivable and forget the past and the willingness to look toward the future.

But you gonna be honest though. Us winning the war does play a huge role in it as well. Would’ve been a whole different story if we lose.
The Notre Dame is on the same time schedule as the Metro… work continues when funds are available. 😂 Time is relative in Vietnam, but we love it as being our home for the last 9 years

I am most impressed of your comment on the vine growing on the scaffolding at the Saigon Notre Dame. Those can grow 1/2' per day, and given an estimated height ~60-80 ft, might have been unattended for 160 days, 1/2 year or more. Perhaps they should just let it be overgrown to become an ancient ruin, and then it'll be a tourist archeological attraction.

8:00 thank you for the empathetic and respectful words about the most recent war that ravaged my home country. It was obvious that it was tough for you guys to take in, but you guys got your message across with such genuine candor, it was somber but beautifully communicated. I agree that despite how hard it may be to see, it is very important for everyone to get a better understanding of history. I also think it's important to know that while Americans did bad things, many of them were good and were thrust into the jungles due to the evil of their superiors, and many of them were young and ignorant and because it was war it's not out of the realm of possibility for these atrocities to occur, especially given the context of "back in the day"; not to excuse any of the evil at all, just good to have well rounded perspective. The truth is Vietnam was in the middle of a struggle to ward of Communism, but once the war got underway, a lot of that fell to the background as the war was so gruesome regardless of the politics. Many Vietnamese don't want to live under Communism and really did suffer after the Communists won and defeated the US, but the country has moved more toward some steps away from Communism and more toward an open economy as that bring wealth and increase in standard of living for the citizens. There's a reason so many Vietnamese Americans are relatively thankful for the U.S. trying even tho the war was started on false pretenses by the Industrial War Complex. If you guys get the chance a few things for you guys to try if you haven't yet, which are my favorites that are not very exotic: - Nuoc Dua (Fresh Coconut Juice), i can't go a day without one lol - Bo Kho (Vietnamese Beef Stew) - Ca Ri (Vietnamese Curry) - Banh Mi Thit Vien Nuong (Grilled Pork Meatball Sandwich), at Banh Mi 37 Nguyen Trai in HCMC District 1 - Banh Mi Pate (Grilled Pate Sandwiches), at Banh Mi Kim Dung in HCMC District 10, special because it's the only spot where they roast the Pate first - Banh Mi Trung op la (Fried Egg Sandwich), good from anywhere for a basic breakfast sandwich - Both Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio (non-soup vermicelli noodle w/grilled pork & spring roll) and Bun Cha (northern version where the noodles are dipped into a grilled pork broth) - Com Tam Thit Nuong (Broken rice w/sliced Grilled Pork) or Com Tam Dat Biet (Broken Rice Special, which typically includes Grilled Porkchop and assorted meats and fried egg) - Nem Nuong Cuon (Grilled pork spring rolls) - Banh Beo (tiny steamed rice cakes, native to Hue) - Banh Khoai (crispy yellow rice panckes, native to Hue, cousin of Banh Xeo which you guys had on the food tour) - Banh Nam (flat rice dumpling, native to Hue) - Banh It Ram (fried sticky rice dumpling , native to Hue) - Nem Lui Hue (lemongrass pork skewer, native to Hue) - Hu Tieu (Pork broth based soup w/Char Siu pork slices, shrimp, etc; noodle soup)[usually uses Rice noodles or Egg Noodles] or Hu Tieu Mi Kho (dry version) - Bun Rieu (Crab based w/some Pork & Tomato infused broth noodle soup with mince meat ball; noodle soup) Too many to list, but all these will get you in the right direction.

Fun video as usual. 24 hours whew. Talk about a whirlwind. HCMC is a great jumping in place to Vietnam. I am hoping that you opted for the 90 day visa. There are so many places to see and experience there. Rushing through it would be a bit sad. With that said i can't wait to see what you two are up too there. The best and cheapest slow travel country i can think of. Go a bit off the usual path, and slooooow down. I am confident you will have a fantastic time no matter what and really can't wait for my weekly dose of wiggity.

Pros: Almost everyone's super nice and helpful, and the food is phenomenal. The price is cheap for almost everything you want to get. Cons: Be extra careful not to get pick pocketed and paying more for what it's actually worth.
