Moldova is one of the three big romanian regions that came toghether to form Romania. Unfortunatly the eastern half of Moldova was captured by the soviets, was heavily russified by bringing people from Siberia, propaganda etc and turned into a republic that is today the country of Moldova.
@dracowar63 жыл бұрын
We lost the eastern half to the russians in 1812 when Napoleon gifted it to Tzar Alexander to suck up to him. Literally. He wanted to "have a friend" among the rulers or Europe, so he gave away half of Moldova, among other territories. Exactly like the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact 140 years later. After selling Basarabia to the Russians, both napoleon and hilter got exactly what they deserved for playing God.

Hey Steve, just few historical facts. Romania was build in 1859 when Wallachia and Moldavia (two old Romanian countries) selected the same leader (Alexandru Ioan Cuza). The first name was United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. In 1866, a new constitution was adopted and the name was changed in Romania. In the same year, Romania elected her first king, Carol the First (from the German family of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen). In 1877, after a war against Ottoman Empire, allied with Russia, Romania obtained his independence. Unfortunately, Russia showed his intentions when they choose to keep the eastern part of Moldova. Romania obtained in 1878 Dobruja. In 1918, at the end of the WWI, Romania obtained Transylvania and also the actual country of Moldova. In 1940, Romania lost the northern part of Transylvania to Hungary and the actual country of Moldova to USSR. After the WWII, Romania regain the Transylvanian regions but the eastern part of Moldova remain under USSR. Today that part in an independent country, Moldova. I will close this with a link to see who was Stephen the Great: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXypmaiYl7GEmpI. You will like it! Greetings guys!!
@dracowar63 жыл бұрын
you are incorrect about the Russians taking Basarabia in 1877. It was stolen by the russian in 1812, when Napoleon "gifted" it, along with other teritories, to Tzar Alexander, in order to suck up to royalty. Napoleon was as bad at reading people, as he was good at war or administration.

Spot on, Steve. Stephen is a name of pedigree! I know the Romanian Church canonised Stephen the Great in the early 90s, so he's now Saint Stephen the Great or Stephen the Great and Holy. The first king of Hungary is also a Saint Stephen (reigned from about 1000 AD). So you got a classy name right there, Steve.

Hope you had a good time in my home town. Calling Timisoara a small town compared to Iași will make you a lot of friends here :) . Also Romanians call Republic of Moldova either Basarabia (from a Romanian prince called Basarab) or Moldova de peste Prut ( the Moldova over the river Prut/Pruth) . Moldavia and Moldovia are foreign names that are not necessarily wrong but they are foreign constructs sometimes used in movies and tv shows by lazy writers/researchers.

Until 2011 Iasi was the second largest city of Romania, considering 2011 statistics it is the fourth. If we look at 2021 infos, it is the second again. That is not really important. Reality is Timisoara, Iasi and Cluj-Napoca are mostly the same in population and represent the most 3 important cities of Romania after Bucharest. By size, Timisoara is bigger than Iasi in numbers but more than half of Iasi is on big hills and valleys while Timisoara is flat. Both are great cities.

@xhaka xhaka Yes, right ! Chisinau is the most bigest town after Bucuresti with 600000 people who live there !

Come to Maramureș. You must visit. It is one of the most beautiful areas in Romania. It's something else.
@JetLagWarriors3 жыл бұрын
coming! Any recommendations on what to do there?
@vlady2213 жыл бұрын
@@JetLagWarriors You can travel with an old steam train called Mocănița. It is taken from Vişeu de Sus. This way you can enjoy the beautiful landscape there. Then, you can visit the merry cemetery (Cimitirul vesel), in Săpânța. You can stay in one of the villages of Maramures and observe the customs and life there. The old Romanian traditions are still kept there. You can search the net for more information. Enjoy. 😊

Im from Moldova state, if you decide to go in Moldova, pay attention on all the Russian signs, symbols, vehicles ( Moldova is still a old Soviet country ) but there are some cool church’s like Căpriana, Curchi, and then se have a cool and picturesque place called Orheiul Vechi ( a big hill church ⛪️ island surrounded by hills ) and Soroca Fortress at the Ukraine border which was used by Steven the great to fight with the enemies. There are some more attractions like Cricova or Milestii Mici ( those are underground wineries ). Good luck!
