You guys took the express intercity train, but the real fast train is the High Speed Rail. Should take just one hour from Taipei to Taichung.

Think you can hire a yellow taxi in the uber app which most of the time is cheaper than usual uber, and the fee is pre paid so no chance to scam.

Of course not, Taichung relies on buses instead of metro, and bus journeys within a few km is free of charge!
