Hopefully you've now found where the party starts: after the first service. I've had a ZX9R, R1's, Tuono V-Twins, an MT10 and a Duke 790, I test rode the Duke 890R (fantastic bike but a 1 trick pony) then decided to go with the MT-09SP last year after back to back test rides and I love this thing. Never too much power to control (the MT10 tried it's best to introduce me to the scenery) but more than enough to have fun at semi-sensible speeds. I've put over 6000 miles on it, had the recall ECU flash which stopped that pull away hesitancy, bought heated gear and enjoyed it all year round. I've just bought Oxford soft panniers and a GoGravel roll bag ready to head North (that's Scotland where from I am) so I will be touring on it. Having toured Europe many times on sportsbikes and nakeds I know that this will be fun. I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am.

I just crossed 4k miles and I've been very pleased with this bike. It does everything I've asked it to without hesitation 👍 I bought a set of SW Motech Blaze Pro Saddlebags for my Honda (kept them when I traded it in) with the hopes that SW Motech would release a mounting kit for the MT-09. Hopefully they do - I really like how easily they install / uninstall depending on the type of ride I'm going on.

I've got a soft spot for the Honda CB650R as it's the bike I did all my training on, and I had a CB125R in the past. I bought a new Yamaha Tenere 700 because of supply problems last year, but I'm currently in the process of selling it. I fancied the Yamaha MT-09 SP but there were none in the UK, so I got a demo on a Yamaha Tracer 9 GT which uses the same engine. But, I never got on with it because most of my riding is around town and urban riding. I found below 30mph I was stuck in second gear and the quick shifter was useless. I also didn't like the sound of the engine around town, but at higher speeds it sounded better. My Yamaha and Honda dealers aren't local, both are a sixty mile round trip. To cut a long story short I went to a local Kawasaki and Suzuki dealer which was only 6 miles away. They had a good deal on a 2021 Suzuki SV650, a bike that had fallen off my radar. After a bit of haggling I got an excellent deal and bought the bike. I'm glad I did because after a few weeks of riding it - I absolutely love the thing! While I was there I had the chance to have a good look at the Kawasaki Z900RS and fell in love with the bike. My favourite colourway was the Candy Tone Blue with the gold stripe; it looked gorgeous and those twin dials were very classy. I had promised myself that one day I'd buy myself a Triumph Speed Twin, but the Kawasaki Z900RS is now top of my list. The bike is expensive for what it is compared to other bikes, and a good low mileage second-hand bike is probably the best way to go. If I was to pay top dollar then I'll go for the SE version, and for me it's definitely one for the future. Whatever happens I'll be keeping the SV650 though, it brings a smile to my face every time I get on it, and that 90° V-Twin sounds fantastic!

Thats crazy. I walked in this morning to buy the one I saw earlier this week, they had the bike taken off the showroom floor as it had arrived damaged. The dealer was waiting for parts, and as a sorry Yamaha sent them a second one and I bought it. It was the gray and Cyan one. The stall feeling might be the Ecu flash. I remember my Cbr650r would walk forward as long as the clutch was slow.

Hi Walt, about 13 days ago I made a comment about the similarities in the stalling issues, well today I received a letter from Yamaha Europe telling me of a recall on my Mt09 SP and I’m to get the bikes ECU reprogrammed (free of charged) at my nearest dealer. So my point being check it out, your chassis number might not be affected and all is ok .

That is a really tough question to answer. The MT-09 has a variety of Traction Control, Lift Control, and Drive Modes that would allow you to drastically limit power output but, even so, it is a lot of bike. If you are past the stage on life where you feel young and invincible, then you could probably go this route and limit the power output. If you're a brand new rider and are going to be doing mostly city riding - I think you might be better suited with something like the MT-07

I have a brand new '21 mt09, I have a '18 also. I have had it die while coming to an idle at a stop sign also, heard of SEVERAL other people have the problem also. Really weird, only done it a couple of times but it's definitely a fueling flaw. Overall the '21 is a WAY better bike, no comparison.
@WaltInPA2 жыл бұрын
I'm slowly getting used to it the more I ride. I think it has a lot to do with muscle memory from my old bike and the MT09 just not responding how I'm used to.
@dg80622 жыл бұрын
@@WaltInPA No doubt Walt. My '18 has K-Tech suspension front and rear. Guy I bought it from spent insane amounts of money. My '21 is a stiff bucking bronco compared to that beautiful $1000+ fully adjustable shock i have in the '18. At the same time, I know the '21 is more stable. I don't have the sp, I can tell they didn't spend much on the shock. That is one thing I may upgrade, even before I put a loud, illegal 🚫 exhaust on it, believe it or not....lol. That's the first thing you see guys do is yank off the stock exhaust, and for good reason. They are boat anchors and somewhat restrictive but power gains are NOT as substantial as people would think. Doing a flash WITHOUT doing a exhaust is going to give you far bigger gains than adding an exhaust and not flashing it. Was shown that by 2wheeldynoworks, a very competent tuner here in the northwest. In fact, put an exhaust on without flashing it and it is almost always produces LESS hp than it did in stock form. Isn't the thing fast enough already? Good God! So, I'm doing smart stuff like mirrors, crash protection, radiator gaurds, puig windscreen, etc. I just think its money better spent. Enjoy your ride and stay safe.

I've heard there has been a product recall for some of these bikes due to this exact issue. its supposed to be an easy software update to fix it. something about different ECU units being used and not all of them responding the same

Why isnt yamaha shipping product?
@WaltInPA2 жыл бұрын
I don't know how accurate it is but it was explained to me that Yamaha doesn't manufacture everything in-house. They use a variety of vendors for various parts (They might use one for foot pegs, another for handlebars, another for levers, etc) and supply issues from these vendors are creating incomplete bikes that can't ship. Again, I don't know how accurate that is but that is what I was told at a dealership when I asked about the delays.
