Literally just got back from Ho Chi Minh city and already missing it. Literally had the exact same Bahn Mi, we couldn't finish the entire thing, ate half of it for brunch, went to Cu Chi Tunnels, then continue eating it for dinner, still couldn't finish it! That bugger is HUGE! Crossing the roads is truly an experience by itself. We jokingly called it the Walk Of Faith. You just gotta walk and pretend you don't see them, they know what to do. Loved my time there. And hello to all the beautiful Vietnamese people !

Wow this looks like the most fun I’ve seen you have! And Pho is one of my favorite foods. I lived in Paris and the people watching chair seating is a custom left over from French colonial days. Ho Chi Min and the Vietnamese people fought hard to liberate themselves from the French btw and I’m really looking forward to more of Buddymoon Vietnam.

Và đến ngày 30/4/1975 một chiến dịch mang tên Chiến Dịch HỒ CHÍ MINH đã đánh đuổi đám NGUỴ quyền Saigon “ tay sai của Mỹ” với hàng Triệu quân và vũ khí tối Tân của Mỹ….Tiếp sau đó trong thời gian chỉ vài ba tuần trong năm 1978 đã đánh tan chính phủ bè lũ diệt chủng Polpot Campuchia do Mỹ và China tài trợ và bảo kê. Chưa hết vào ngày 17/2/1979 Trung Quốc đem 600.000 quân đánh chiếm 6 tỉnh biên giới phía Bắc VN và trong vòng 1 tháng bị VN đánh đuổi ra khỏi bờ cõi . Vậy là từ 1950 tới 1980 VN đã từng trải qua bao nhiêu cuộc chiến tranh tàn khốc và phải đối đầu đánh đuổi biết bao nhiêu thế lực thù địch mà trong đó có 3/5 nước đứng đầu trong Hội Đồng Bảo An LHQ là Pháp Mỹ China đều bị Bẻ Cổ

I haven't been to Ho Chi Min City, but when I went to Hanoi I had a friend give me some advice on crossing the street, she said "When you go, don't change your speed or direction and never look someone on a scooter in the eyes, if you look them in the eyes they will expect you to stop, but it you go strait ahead they will just ride around out" it worked for me, but take a bit of a leap of faith to get used to, you can see how that kid made it across at 1:18 just fine, he knew the tricks.

Here’s a tip for when I was recently was there at Vietnam (this is my own personal opinion): when you’re crossing the road, walk as you go, don’t run or rush. As you walking they will ignore you and move over the side of you. If you don’t, they might “bump” into you. Hope that helps.

Don't run because they will not be able to avoid you. Just walk normally and watch out for bad riders.

The best method for crossing a busy boulevard in HCMC is to call a Grab car. The Second best method is you face into oncoming scooter traffic and when there's a gap you slowly step step step while watching oncoming traffic. They will steer around you, except for buses. They'll just flatten you. Aeon Mall has an awesome food court. Try the vegetarian Banh Mi. Also I don't eat pork so I would order Bánh Cuốn with shrimp. Delicious. Have fun and don't die.

As someone from KL, Malaysia's capital city, HCM was quite an eye opener. First of all, like what you said, so many scooters, it's really overwhelming and so few cars. The ratio was like 1 car to at least 20 scooters unlike in KL, where it was probably 1 motorcycle to 20 cars. Secondly, I also discovered a new Vietnamese dish, Banh Mi like what you had, really nice. Hope to explore this city again next time, as my previous trip was a kindda few days transit trip to somewhere else.

Some other good Vietnamese dishes to try, though they're better in some regions more than others, depending on the dish. If you enjoy flavourful soups, try Bun Bo Hue as well. Banh xeo is a savoury crispy crepe. Banh cuon (steamed crepe with pork filling). Banh bot loc is a steamed rice flour type of appetizer that usually has shrimp filling. Bo la lot is a grilled beef that's wrapped in betel leaf. It can be eaten as an appetizer or part of a wrap your own rolls with thin vermicelli (banh hoi)
