For fruits & vegetables, I recommend you to visit Total Buah, they have high-quality fruits and vegetables. For a cheaper option, you have to go to the traditional market, but the issue is some places open at midnight & early morning, then the places mostly dirty & smelly, but their products is good and fresh. Sliced ham is not common since the majority of the Jakarta population is Muslim, but you can easily found at high-end grocery stores like grand lucky.

Real (natural) cheese is always expensive in Indonesia because most of them are imported from Europe, US, or Australia. But processed cheese are cheap, locally made and plentiful. Cold cuts / ham / sausages / salami / bacon / deli items especially pork ones are only available at upmarket gourmet supermarkets like foodhall, ranch market, kem chicks. You can find these at most fancy malls in jakarta and various standalone locations like Kemang & Pondok Indah. However, beef / chicken-based deli items are available at most large supermarkets in jakarta like Hero, Lotte Mart, Carrefour / Transmart, etc all over the city. Indomaret / Alfamart are more like mini markets, and I don’t think they stock deli items. Most Indonesians don’t eat delicatessen items, so most of the time they’re imported and therefore very expensive. Enjoy your time in Jakarta!
@marklehmann3 жыл бұрын

most of us buy fresh goods like veggies, spices, fruits and animal products in traditional market. much more cheaper than in supermarket because sometimes the farmers sell it directly by them selves to us. cheese is quite expensive because we don't consume dairy products as much as western people, so the factory is also not a lot, it makes the products limited, and most of the cheese products are imported from another country, that's why they're so pricey we have a slice of ham for sandwich just like you do, but it's not available in any random grocery store you found, you need an effort to find the place where they sell a ham, because again, we don't consume bread a lot, sometimes we eat bread as a snack, and we prefer a sweet spread like chocolate spread, sweet peanut butter or fruit jam instead of meat and vegetables inside our sandwich

Almost every foods beeing provide in Jakarta always be in small size and crazy price, such as k** chicken, burgers, chicken breast of nasi uduk, taco bell, junk food, etc. because they make big profits by reducing food ingredients, (sometime physically outside medium but inside is very small) very different from other countries for example neighboring countries they always afford the best to make people satisfied with a big size meal or food and its surely with cheap price
