NOT ONLY WT fails to hold up how well those planes as well as the b17 could hold up and taking a beating before being bailed out on .. thats why in the wars ya a lot got shot down but a ton of those planes were able to return even though they were torn to shreds and were missing a lot of parts ..WT doesn't do those planes justice ....

@@rickc1682 you forget that in warthunder RB, its MUCH easier to get your guns on target with mouseaim and land multiple hits. Change the gamemode to sim and its a lot harder and B29s would be lasting a lot longer. 262s carry 30mm cannons, only a handful of hits would destroy even heavy bombers. I suggest looking up the video of a single 30mm mk108 hitting a spitfire wing on a test range. Basically turned it into confetti.

@@CrazyDutchguys Wrong, if the game mechanics are half through correct, one single Mine-shell of the 30mm kills a B29. That is just slaughter... as the americans learned in korea as they had some B29 facing Migs alone.

as many people have pointed out, the 262s started from the same height as the B29s. however, most 262 pilots were taught to approach from the tail

Not just that. The me262s would never hang around a bomber formation, let alone turn around and try to dogfight or re-engage immediately. They would start out above the bomber formation and dive down on them reaching 900+kph, do 1 attack run (killing 1 maybe 2 bombers) and keep diving so the enemy escorts can't catch up. Once sufficient distance is reached, they would pull up, again altitude and repeat.

From the tail? Already with bf109’s an fw190’s the germans found out that an attack from above and the front was the way to do it. Minimize the time under the bombers guns. Dive, fire, extend, climb, overtake, repeat.

at 8:22 i scored a crit hit on them, i read "Lost tail control" and thought that they done for, so i focused on the other 262 approaching which gave them just enough time to take aim. im sure id have killed them if i wouldnt have read that wrong

It’s telling when the first 8 words out of the US aviators mouth irl was “ what was that! What the hell was that! “ upon the first time seeing the Me 262.. they actually got it on video funny enough. It’s definitely one of the more wild things to have been documented with a video camera. You can hear the genuine shock and disbelief in the aviator’s voice.

Of the alt history ww2 scenarios, this is the most probable. The only thing preventing it was the decision to not deploy the b 29 over Europe. In the end, I doubt it would have made a major difference, as the allies had enough numbers of the older bomber models that the increased capabilities of the 29 would have made a small total impact.

@@chuckythecat9894 the first British one was an experimental plane (as was the first German jet), the first jet in British service was a fighter, but if rover hadn't screwed up with the engines which delayed it into 1944 its possible Britain might have had the meteor in 42. In fact had the air ministry taken whittle more seriously in 1929, the Germans may never have developed a jet engine as the patent probably would have been deemed top secret and not published (Germany may well have developed their own, but wouldn't have had whittles design patents to go on) and possible Britain could have had jet fighters when war broke out assuming sufficient development work had occurred.

As someone else said, they cant target more than one aircraft at a time. Also, fighters usually outnumbered the jets like 10:1 at this point, and the skies were usually covered by hundreds of bombers at a time. Would be more interesting to see a dozen bombers, a dozen fighters, and maybe 3 me-262's. Then you would get some sense of the fear the jet pilots felt at this point in time.

you are supposed to boom and zoom not hang around. The Me 262 pilots in ww2 would be going 100+ mph faster than the bombers thats what gave them the advantage, so you have the speeds wrong and the tactics incorrect

The outcomes here were rather predictable when you consider that the Me 262 was designed as a bomber interceptor and that the amassed firepower of bomber guns were most effective in formations that were hundreds strong.

The big problem here, is the bomber pilots didn't stay in formation. This negated the firepower they can bring to target, and left them wide open. During ww2, it was a nightmare for german pilots because a cluster of bombers were so close together that they were facing down 20-30 guns rather than 2-3 guns. Also, fighter escorts always flew as groups of 2, a main and a wingman. Wingmen would hang back and to the side to keep enemy fighters off the lead fighters six. Thereby limiting the enemy's chances at successful dogfights.

They are also made of cardboard in Warthunder. These things kept flying when shot to swiss cheese. In Warthunder a couple of rounds to one section makes it break apart like an egg. In RL that's just not how metal behaves these speeds.

it doesn´t matter... the B29 is not suitable against a Me-262. The same with other bombers OTL. If the Me could reach the bombers it was very bad news for them. 4 30mm is a death to any bomber. No shit. And with its greater speed the Me could kill a bomber so fast all the 12,7mm do nothing... if you watch the video you see the jet fighters used the "long range" shooting, against this the B29 are helpless targets.

@@GreenBlueWalkthrough oh, okay... about the Me-262, as long as it worked it was "unbeatable" for the allies. Only by start and landing they got the chance to shoot em down. Otherwise, in the air, 2 working turbines, any enemy was toast (outside the outliners or failures as "cruising with 600km/h and don´t look back" and other related stuff. But, in the hand of an average guy with more then 100h of air time, no enemy wanted to engage such planes. Because even fighters would get slaugthered... even the P-47, one hit and it is done. No chance of surviving this. The russians made it later even better with their 37mm-cannons, some could argue that the Aden-gun was better, but again this was just the german MK215-cannon... think about a Me-262 equipped with 2 of them... and then think about bombers... shudder So, ironically, with more Me-262 the bombing campagin could have come to an end. But it is good that this never happened.

The first two rounds were a guaranteed win for the Me-262. As capable as they are those formations were too loose and were abandoned as soon as they came under attack. A bomber that is alone is dead without escorts

I have always found the AI for your turret gunners to be god awful the number of times I've had them ignore planes attacking, fire a single burst and stop or shoot at some other plane not the one attacking. When you are trying to man the gun sure it can be better but it would be nice that when you shifted back to flying or bombing they'd continue attacking or weirdly sometimes they are god touched firing a single burst killing some dot two time zones away.

P-51s were able to shoot down Me-262s when they were turning, cause the 262 would take turns too wide and the Mustang could cut them off and shoot them down at that point.
