Advice from an unfortunate victim to cambridge's tricks...if the question asks for a "talk" it means speech and not interview. (I made the mistake in my mocks so I'm good)
@Taughtly

I also had a student who made that mistake. It will deduct some marks but not a lot since appropriate register is only one aspect of the mark scheme.

im not too sure, since i reviewed the examiner report and one of the responses consisted of a copied description from another book and the examiner pointed that out, so just make sure to reword it when youre writing a speech.

Hello Teacher! I'm a private candidate who is self-learning to face the CIE IGCSE FLE exams this November and your videos have been an enormous help to me. I just came through Question 3 of the 2024 May June paper 12 which asks us to write a "talk" which I had never encountered before. Therefore, I'm a bit confused if there is any difference between a speech and a talk. Can you please break it down for me and guide me on how to write a talk properly? If you can reply before the 7th of October, it would mean so much to me... Thank you! 😊
@Taughtly
@Taughtly 2 ай бұрын
@@meenudesilva6499 hi! A speech and a talk are the same thing ☺ a talk would perhaps be a bit more informative in style, whereas a speech COULD be more persuasive in style. But essentially the same, talking to a live audience, using same techniques as given in the video. Hope that helps and good luck 🌟

TOPIC: going for swimming in the sea I could already feel the misty breeze surfing on my face. We zoomed past cars like it was life or death (…Well after all, it was my third time in life visiting the sea… also I wanted to swim.) 2 sharp turns and we would be at the sea…. or in the middle of the ocean (no one wants that? Right?). soon my feet came in contact with the sand, either it was a happy reunion orrr, (well, why do I even need to tell this?) I was happy either way. Running like a maniac in sand is hard for many people, but when you are in love with doing something, you can’t get back right? (I am still a little kid, how am I supposed to know?) I kept running but the sea had other plans (let me warn you they are not well meaning) just wrote for fun by the way what does this count as? i think narrative
@Taughtly
@Taughtly 11 ай бұрын
It seems more descriptive to me because you don't have a clear sense of plot or character. E.g. I don't know who your narrator is: boy, girl, young, old, nationality? I'd also encourage you to use brackets a little less. Once per paragraph at most.

And how do i write in a more expressive way, because my writing seems dry without any expressions? Are there any possible resources or texts i can read to make my writing better? It would mean a lot if you answered these questions. I love your notes btw. Thankyou

I don't know if you would end up seeing this but I have my exams in October and I have to ask: For the interview, are we meant to add our own questions for the interviewee the way you did? Because the format my teachers taught me is completely different. They said we shouldn't have any introduction or conclusion and we should just answer the three questions in each paragraph, so I'm a but thrown off by what I just saw. Anyways, I love your videos so so much and you're a big help in improving my English❤❤❤

in english as a first language igcse, if the question says for example begin your letter with 'dear sir', or 'respected sir', are we not supposed to write the format and directly start off with 'dear sir', or are we supposed to write the format including the date address etc first and then start off with 'dear sir'
@Taughtly
@Taughtly 2 ай бұрын
You don't need to write date/address - it's a waste of time and you get no marks for it :) Just begin directly as instructed with "dear sir" or whatever the prompt is :)

I have a question, I understand the point of view the tone your writing the letter to the mum. But lets say their relationship may be not as good but because of the recent problems she faced, she wants to write a letter to her mum as she doesn't know who else to write to. Can't this be an option as we have no information about their relationship? So in that case, can we write the letter in a different tone ?
@Taughtly
@Taughtly Жыл бұрын
Good question! It will largely be based off what text you're given. If there's evidence in the text that the character and their mum have a poor relationship, of course include it. Otherwise you should just assume they have a normal and close relationship. E.g. A past paper had a character write a letter to their mum for advice. The mum wasn't in the story at all, never mentioned, so Cambridge was just expecting a normal, friendly, close tone in the letter. Small phrases like "you know what I'm like!" and "you always give me such good advice" will help you to achieve this tone ✨

@Taughtly

Hi there, good question! No, you get absolutely no credit for rephrasing AND your rephrasing could make you lose focus on the actual words of the bullet points, causing you to lose reading marks. I strongly recommend you copy down the questions exactly without changing at all. Good luck! ☺

What is the difference between point detail development (pdd) and point evidence explain (pee)
@Taughtly
@Taughtly Жыл бұрын
Hi! PEE is usually used for analysis, especially in literature. I suppose you could think of it the same way. Content point - ideas from the text summarised in your own words (pizza, garlic bread, chocolate = food) Details - explicit details mentioned in the text (pizza, garlic bread, chocolate). Usually the what, who, where, when Development - you extending upon implicit ideas in the text, usually feelings, emotions, reactions, how, why. (I felt so stuffed after eating all that food, but there was nothing healthier to eat) Plus, each main body paragraph should aim to have around 4-5 content points, so typical PEE structure would be just one paragraph.

Hello! This was intended for IGCSE First Language English - but I've also taught AQA English Language too and it would apply. Realistically, there's only one way you can write a magazine article, for example, no matter what exam you're taking 😆 But I'd just check what texts AQA could ask you to write because, for example, I don't think interview writing comes up on it. Pretty sure speech, magazine, letter do but it's been seven years since I've taught that particular exam.
