Nice. It looked like a great bike regardless of the motor. The trail you were on certainly put it through its paces. I am not going to get an e bike yet but if the trails I goto had extended climbs like these in the video, I would be hard pressed to come up with a reason to not have one. Thanks Matty. That is the difference between a less expensive bike and higher end bikes, geometry really makes a difference also. I’m not sure why people get hung up on the fact it looks like an ebike, if I’m going to ride my ebike I really don’t care what others think. There is no hiding it is an ebike. By the way, that trail looked sick! Nice job on that one, looks like my kind of trail lol.

If those E-bikes weren't so expensive I would have one, because they are fun no matter what they say. Unlike you, I like the way they don't use a "screen", because doing that you save battey. Look the gopro's putting huge screens that burn battery instead those old display of the old ones. It's simple and do not waste energy. That was a real test for an E-bike or any bike, that's the way to test the bikes. Nice vid.

To clarify- there is also a button pad on the left grip to cycle through the modes as well. 👍 a display screen is an option for those who prefer it over the discrete indicator. Great video front to back! I loved some of the rocky downhill sections. What trail is this?

@MTBr-of-SoCal2 жыл бұрын
@william, so what makes you think an e-bike is the way to go at 61 and hurting everywhere? E-bikes ain't gonna take the burden off but rather give you a false sense of skills cuz it allows you to go beyond what your body is capable of. I don't get this type of mentality. It's like a aging weight lifter who can't do 250lbs bench presses anymore cuz of aching joints or whatever. But somehow they think a motorized machine that'll do half the lifting "allows him" to weight lift again. I sometimes ride with a 73 yo on a regular mtb, still killing it. Ya, he has limits, can't climb too much, too far but he loves and enjoys every minute of what he can do. He has no interest in motorized bikes to allow him to go any further than what his body is capable of. When I get to the point of being incapable of hitting double-blacks and blacks, or doing all day sessions, then that's my limit and I'm gonna respect what my body tells me. I ain't going motorized.
@williamwgardner93752 жыл бұрын
@@MTBr-of-SoCal I understand what you’re saying but places like Mohican in Ohio with a e-bike make it more enjoyable. I’ve done it many times on a pedal bike but much rather do it on a e-bike . I still don’t own a e-mountain bike but have rented them and they are fun and still a work out. When I lived in AZ my girlfriend rode a e-bike and I had a pedal bike and it was a perfect match and we could ride together.

@@juansanchez-tr1dq I haven't missed any point. The Tour De France reference was hyperbole. I ride for fun and sense of accomplishment when I improve. MTBing a great exercise and on certain trails a good challenge as well. You're right, there are some that want to ride without the effort. That is fine. My point is THAT content is not interesting to watch, for ME. It's cool if YOU like that kind of content. I have watched Matty get his first bike and learn how to ride, grow and improve. You definitely didn't take it easy on that bike! Impressed about how quiet it was and how well it handled. It's a $3600 bike, so it should be pretty nice. I'm surprised they don't have that power adjustment mounted to the handlebar, that would be easy to do and make a lot more sense. PLEASE remove that shipping protective sticker off the power button...it makes my ADD kick in. I know you're not a specs guy, but a suggestion for future reviews is to at least mention a few things about it like fork, rear suspension, brakes, tires, wheels, drivetrain, other features and stuff like that. It helps put what you're doing into perspective for the viewer. Great job Matty!

I’m still torn about e-bikes. I get that they get more people on bikes which is a good thing but can be a bad thing as well. I absolutely hate when a person who isn’t athletic passes me on the trail because they have a motor. It’s scary sometimes to think what it would be like if they ran into me. I just turned 50 in July and I’m certainly not ready to join the e-bike trend just yet. Ask me again 5 years down the road. I do think they are great for skilled riders who just hate to climb but slay the downhills. I can see how it could help someone jump higher with more speed. I jump a bit and I’m talking small kickers and drops but I actually enjoy the pedal and climbing. The “huff and puff” is partly why I ride. I guess there’s a place for e-bikes and situations that they could be appreciated but I’m not on that side of the argument.

All of Jeffco trails, State Parks, Floyd Hill, Maryland Mountain allow ebikes. Boulder is not very ebike friendly, yet. Wait till you try an enduro style ebike with 170/160 travel. They are heavy only when you load them in and out of the car. I have Giant Reign E+ and it rides very similar to my Ripmo AF. I do 3-4 runs on Longhorn trail on White ranch on ebike vs 1 run on Ripmo cause Belcher hill.

I like E-bikes despite not wanting one for myself. I do feel kind of disappointed that Orbea decided that the motor controls should be hanging off the front like that instead of on a handlebar control like most are using, even cheaper models. Otherwise it looks like a pretty good ride, I just wouldn't buy one with the controls setup like that.

@MTBr-of-SoCal2 жыл бұрын
sorry, just misleading. It wasn't the Orbea nor the rider that made that rough trail look like nothing. It was motor. It amazes me how people say "Ya, I just did an epic 40 miles + flew through huge rock gardens like it was flat dirt" while riding an e-bike. It was the e-bike that took you 40 miles and allowed you to fly over the rock gardens. @matty you don't need an e-bike. You're already a good rider without one.
