To be honest, there's still quite a stretch left till Pokrovsk (I think several months, about half a year), if the Russians advance at their current pace. Western mainstream media with their pro-Ukrainian bias still think about "what Ukraine should do to reverse the current situation". It's Weeb who sees things more strategically.

It does not seem like the Ukrainians are able to stabilize and stop the front from moving, they had some success in Vovchansk and in the Serebryansky Forest area with the Azov but everywhere else the front line is breaking and the Russians are on the move. It is slow right now but there is a transformation and the advances and the movements are becoming larger and more frequent. This looks like a phase transition in Physics. The stable front is transforming into a broken front.

@@MartinMartinX Doubt it. Ukriane doesnt have enough man power, resources and in huge debt to NATO nations. Military personel and eqiupments need stable econmy to maintain. They should have listen to Russia terms before the war started and stayed as netural nation since they gain indepence in 1991 instead of believeing uncle sam they could win the war and be part of NATO.

Maybe. The main northern push near Avdeevka is just to draw Ukrainians in from the south, if they only focus there then it'll call attention to itself, and Russia has enough men to take advantage of the south if Ukraine does redeploy units. Only a thought though

So the question is: when will the Russians advance fast enough for the Ukrainians not to be able to prepare new lines of defense as replacements for the ones that are being taken.

@taurus4495 Not really. The Uke Nazis tried massive concentration of forces to overwhem defences and lead to lightning fast breakthroughs. The Russians have consistently used small unit infiltrations to advace incrementally to slowly erode local defenses. It's just being done in more locations across the front, and lack of Uke Nazi resistance has allowed more opportunities to exploit.

I think every contact line is considered the “first line”. When that is breached, the next defenses are technically the new first line. NATO has been preparing for this war since the overthrow of the elected Ukrainian govt some years ago. As evidenced by extended fortifications in the middle of their own country.
