I never realized this before, but even the NAME Pain of Salvation alludes to the character of their music. There's always a tension between the "pain," the sonic weirdness that makes you feel uncomfortable (which does take different forms - here it's the rhythmic herky-jerky quality, syncopations on top of syncopations which, I mean, yeah it's a pattern, but it's beyond the capacity of most ears to comprehend)...and the "salvation" the glorious, emotionally-fulfilling moments like the second chorus in this song (moments that Daniel is just SO good at writing). That tension defines the VAST majority of their music, and it has done since album #1 back in 1997. This defining feature of their music is one of the reasons why it generally takes me several MONTHS to fully appreciate each new album they release. Their last album, 2017's In the Passing Light of Day took me almost a year to "get." And now I think it's their best album since 2002's Remedy Lane (I think most fans would name this, or The Perfect Element as their personal favourite). Panther is no exception...I've been through it about 7 or 8 times now and each time I like it more. I think they were quite brave, going against the conventions of prog and keeping most of the songs to 6 minutes or less. You've really got to try the song "Keen to a Fault" from Panther. I think it's the best song on the whole album - really a throwback to 70s prog rock, with incredible synths and a really killer chorus. Great reaction, keep up the excellent work!

Listening to Pain of Salvation is always challenging. But music that demands the most time and attention usually stays forever. Just like this band. I've been following Daniel and co for more than 15 years now. And they always bring something new. That's why i love this band so much. They never cease to amaze me ❤️

POS have never been an easy band to get into, yet overall I'd say I'm a fan. Always had them in the realms of prog style wise.

It's impossible to judge PoS listening to just one song. Every song, every album is always different. This is probably the weakest song of this album. I like it, but the rest of the album is pretty amazing. And again, very different from all the others. The essence of this band still remain on the first 5 albums, imo. It is still my favorite band for 20+ years though.

For me, the best song in the album. :)

@@janoskovacs9855 after countless listens of the cd I agree it's as good as all the other songs. Panther is the only song I only like the first half but then I would like more of a sound explosion with guitar solos that never came. Other than that, the whole album is amazing, once again.

I thought it was ok. However, the recent release by Oceans of Slumber is just wow.

I can't get over the fact that people really just use POS as the abbreviation for this band... meanwhile 99% of the internet uses POS to mean Piece of Shit... 🤣 so maybe just write the name lol
