My concern is that season 1 was sooooo inspired that I fear they will end up trying to replicate the success and miss the mark but I do have faith in them to pull it off. There is an animation channel on KZbin that did a podcast episode with one of the lead animators on arcane and they really get into what the process was like which was fascinating. Arcane could have been released 2 or even 3 years ago but it took a long time after the pilot episode to begin the actual production. Fortiche as a company doubled and tripled in staff just to better accommodate arcane season 1 and on the music side, Mako talked on his channel about the process of writing some of the songs and how they had no idea if the artists they had in mind for the soundtrack would work with them but were lucky when they really resonated with the project and put out some stellar work. I don’t know much about Alex Yee and I’m sure his contributions were huge but Christian Linke really stood out to me, not only is he writer and director but he also oversaw the music. For someone who has never done this before he seems to be a natural and I’m really looking forward to what him and Alex pull off for season 2

I’m fully prepared for Arcane season two to not be nearly as good as season one, and I’m very ok with that! I mean, how in the world are you supposed to follow that masterful first season? I think expecting them to make it even better is being a bit unfair because it’s a damn near impossible task - sure, they could definitely pull it off, but I find it’s better to not get expectations too high so the possibility of disappointment is lower. Season 1 is a 10/10 show for me, and as long as season 2 is around an 8/10, I will be very happy

Season 2 at least is the same script as from season 1. Both were written at the same time, with the same people, and the same talents at Fortiche and Riot games over seeing it. Add to that that the Story writers at Riots now suddenly have Alot more clout to work with and Fortiche trains it's own animators to add to the company. So even if nothing else is quite as good... the story and the animation should have no issues. (Fortiche are miracle workers... under the budget of a pixar movie they gave us a series thats the length of any 3 pixar movies while doing No motion capture, and working under french labor laws which means No Crunch, Full Vacations, Mandated breaks, and reasonable workdays)... all in a far shorter time than one might think. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of their training became industry best practices.

@@thehutch1674 I have been following Twitter posts, and interviews from creators super close and posting everything I find on forums and in Discord chats. But I'd have to dig and dig to find the exact quotes. ~_~ It has been at least a month worth of time and stuff happening. But yeah we can definately agree whole heartedly that Fortiche are Amazing. There's a youtube interview with one of the head Animators at Fortiche. He's former Pixar and he and the other heads of Fortiche train their staff themselves in the style.

I'm def expecting a late 2023 or early 2024 release date, a lot of the initial work, being character models, finding voice actors, environments, story, and just general practice has all got a good amount already good to go for season 2. It'll take them much less time to make new zaun areas after having already made so many and we will likely revisit alot of them, aswell as multiple characters that are reappearing so won't have to make models and get vas for them

Yes but most of that is done on the side , basically there is a team that will get the VA and record and another team for the story and another for animation (the biggest) and other for music , u get the point It still needs time and patience also budget is a big factor , and since arcane did pretty well they have a good budget to work with

this is one of the thing I’m afraid of, they exceeded expectations with season 1 by a large margin, I don’t want them to rush or muck up the story of season 2 cause they set such a high bar already story and animation wise, I’m willing to let my expectations lower but that’s not possible since watching season 1 so I want them to take as much time as possible to get everything as perfect as can be, what is a little suffering and patience in return for such a beautiful story, to me it’s nothing at all.

No rushing. The story for season 2 was done at the same time as season 1 before the whole show got produced. The thing now is assembling a suitable team for writing season 3... that's where the real rubber meets the road test is going to come, cause that's the point at which new stuff that wasn't crafted by the same team as season 1 will start to show up and then we'll truly know it's staying power.

@@HimitsuHunter I've read that they planned out the big story arcs for the entire series when they were writing S1, so even if some writers are new, they should have a road map at least, and the showrunners would be the same and have to approve everything. It's also still a desirable project with some additional prestige attached now, which should make it an attractive place to return to, so I'm hopeful they can reassemble most of the same writers. My biggest fear is that S3 just drags us down what feels like an inevitable doom spiral of tragedy. I tend to think that if they went that dark for S1, there will be light at the end of the tunnel in S3, but still, I fear the scream-sobbing...

Game of Thrones was killed in the writing room and not because of crunch. D&D and their team had that written long before we got close to the crunch for production. The boys are just tragically bad writers that got a 1 in a million break and fucking blew it because of a good guess. second they lost Martins plot you see the show start to derail. like you can see the switch from everyone being smarter then everyone and just out thinking everyone to making stupid decisions left and right.

The voice acting and animation are extremely well done. I hope Netflix and Riot won’t disappoint us with Season 2. As a BBC Sherlock fan, I know the pain of waiting for years until the next season.

As for season 2 I believe it will hold up great quality from what I've learned. The teams working on the show seems to be quite passionate about their work and truly wants it to be good. We're also most likely being introduced more to Noxus, hence exploring the world further already in the next season. It seems like things are going pretty good so far, but we have yet to see the outcome.

I agree with a late 2023 release. I'm not an animator, but I am a game developer, so I have some sort of inkling how long big production projects take. It won't take nearly as long this time. Their storming phase and getting their workflow between companies going has probably been ironed out with the production of season 1.

An addendum to my previous post. Rewatch the Imagine Dragons Enemy video. There 3 distinct age progressions of Jinx depicted. Powder as a little girl. Jinx as a teenager. And during JID's solo part we can see a much older, more womanly 20 something Jinx with Fishbones strapped to her back. So expect a 5 year or so time jump between Season 1 and 2. Also rewatch any of the episodes intro sequences. The one in which the characters look like they are made of clay models. There is a quick image of Jinx pointing pow pow up in the air towards Vi. Who looks like she is leaping towards Jinx with both her Atals gauntlets on. So yes. We can definitely expect to see a fight between Vi and Jinx in season 2. Then consider all these animations were done before Season 1 even landed on Netflix.

I agree with the time it will take to finish Season 2, however, one small detail you forgot that will also cut down on the wait time. Season 2 production was already started before season 1 premiered. Pair that with everything you mentioned, not having to spend time learning since they did that for Season 1, having double the team size and now they are solely focused on Season 2 rather than split focused. So take the original 6 years, double the team size cuts that in half already, down to 3. Not having to split focus, cut another year off at least, down to 2. Not having to spend a half a year learning everything, since they already know it now, down to 1.5 years, which from this point would put it at late spring or early summer 2023. But now consider that they've already been working on Season 2 for half a year, now we're looking at early 2023 or possibly even late 2022.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of work has already been done that can be re-used in Season 2. Art direction, rigging, backgrounding... Since it's been presumably set in the time right after the ending of Season 1 considering the trailer tease, they can re-use a lot of what they already have, which will save a considerable amount of time. I figured that between 2-3 years is when Season 2 will come out, barring some new catastrophe.

I can say with 100% certainty. That just based on the results of all the shorts, and trailers, and videos that Riot has produced over the years. Like Get Jinx. Awaken. Tales of Runeterra...etc. etc.. Riot knew before Arcane even land on Netflix that they had a winner on their hands. When was the last time any one has heard any series release a Season 2 announcement within mere days after the first season ended. The answer is simple.. Never. Riot began production of Season 2 as soon as they finished the last post production edits of Season 1, and had it good to go.

Actually, quite a lot of series in this day and age get cleared for a second season well before the release of the first season. This lets them push out the second season much faster if the first season goes over well, and if the first season were to go really well, they could get cleared for even a third season near season one's release. EDIT: This is not me disagreeing with the quality of Arcane, just clearing a misconception. Arcane is by far my favourite show of the decade and I'm excited for season 2.

Atla was my favorite animated show of all time before Arcane, as well. I believe many people share our sentiment. I am hoping production on Arcane takes as long as necessary because I would rather wait than be disappointed. I really want this show to end with the same prestige it burst onto the scene with, so it may be remembered as the greatest animation of all time, much the same way Atla was before it.

Maybe the writing (or just the base concept/direction) is already started for season 2. I totally agree HOWEVER you run into things in that industry like Cyberpunk where if it were up to the dev studio that game STILL probably wouldn't be out. So as long as their maintaining their own timed goals, i dont mind even waiting for an extension to make the show on par with season one OR better. Which is why i personally am never phased when games are delayed (especially with the pandemic still going on)

I predict about starts of 2024. It took a long time because it's hard to start a show, but now, having the designs made, animators, ideas, resources, and not being on lockdown because of the pandemic, it will take about 3 years, maybe a bit less if things work out really well for them

I'd prefer at least a late 2024 release to enure it's not rushed, it took about 4 years for season 1 so taking about the same time for season 2 seems like the best course of action and most all arcane fans seem to be supportive of things taking longer than rushed in in a few shorter years for the next season, it's a bigger and more ambitious project and needs that time allowance, arcane isn't a cookie cutter triple A game that has a release every single year it's art and deserves that kind of treatment as a work of art instead

They can release it whenever and I'll watch it...I just want it good, just like Season 1. So if that takes extra time? Take it... but Riots always been good about delivering good stuff and Fortiche always hits, so don't think there will be any issues...

I'd probably say mid 2023 at the latest, they weren't working on season 1 until the air date and a lot of staff were certainly finished with season 1 work months before others and able to move on to the early stages of season 2. Concept artists and storyboarders probably would've started working on season 2 content back in 2020.

Truth be told, I don't really care how long it will take. I want the creators to take as much time as they need to maintain the same quality as season one, and for them to work on it comfortably without being treated like animators are oh so often treated during production.

I am on the standpoint that it should take whatever times it needs, this should not be rushed at all granted wait time will be shorter but I seriously hope that they don't rush anything because that might play against the quality

Even if Arcane has a late 2023 release, i feel like the fans are still going to be really excited (myself included) and if Riot wants to keep the excitment up for the next season they can release teaser images and trailers, and hell id be happy to watch behind the scenes work. My point is that as long as Riot engages their new audience then i feel that even if it takes two years the fan will be just as excited for the next season

It's fair. Animated shows, even with digital assets and production methods is INSANELY labor intensive. And that equals TIME.
