Increasing production seems a bit pointless if you can only move 8/s between parcels. The research to increase transfer rate seems quite far off.

Does putting nodes between extraction and processing improve throughput?

Nope.

Not directly but the Nodes have a large number of connections letting you increase the number of extraction parcels and production parcels to send them to. The throughput is additive for each parcel
