Darwin has accepted my feedback and is making changes. He says there will be adjustments to the water bottle pockets and shoulder pockets.

So in regards to the changes, when would we know that the changes have been made? I have had my eye on this pack for a while but am curious as to when the updates will be, so I can grab one.
@FrozensAdventures Жыл бұрын
Shoulder pockets have (to my knowledge) been changed already. I'm not sure about the water bottle pockets. I will also say I'm not sure I have the right frame size as suggested by some other viewers. I will say the measurements given for a small frame meet my normal measurements though.

Not being able to take out or put back water bottles in side pockets is a deal breaker for me! I love this style of pack but so many pack designers seem to either have crazy shoulder flexibility or don't want to take the time to design good side pockets.
@robpelton Жыл бұрын
I do love the fact that the design of this pack came from a real world user. Also, one that films. So, there a couple perspectives at play here. Busied quality is there. Now, to go head to head with the Waymark EVLV. these are very close in design. Thanks for the 1st look Frozen. Appreciate ya. Cheers.

Looks great, bro! Thanks for the review! And I totally agree with you on bottom pockets. So scared I'm going to leave trash/scents and get my pack destroyed by curious rodents. It's MUCH cheaper and easier to replace a food bag than an entire pack. Gloves, hat, maybe.
@falingsky5731 Жыл бұрын
I’m with you guys and don’t use the bottom pocket for trash or snacks but it is an easy place to stuff gloves or hat or stuff like that on the shoulder seasons.

I thought bottom pockets were for clif bars and snacks on the trail? Easy to grab without removing the pack on trail. I am more attracted to the LiteAF packs for the easy-access water bottle pockets that are 'looser' albeit I worry about losing a bottle from them.

Thanks for the video! Excellent. I like the removable y strap which is a real innovation. As is the camera clip attachment point. Re bottom pocket. Where do you keep your snacks and wrappers? If they're accessible which they have to be, something will end up smelling. I keep my trash in a ziploc in there and my umbrella. No problems with water. Have a good one
@FrozensAdventures Жыл бұрын
I use a fanny pack and keep wrappers in there until lunch / dinner when I swap them to my Ziploc garbage bag. Has worked very well for years. No issues with rodents.
@dcaudwell Жыл бұрын
@@FrozensAdventures You can do the same for each day's snacks with the bottom pocket - put a rolled ziploc in there, eat your snack, pull out the ziploc, put in the empty wrapper, refold/roll the ziploc and put it back in the trash port. At the end of each day you can then transfer that day's empty wrappers into your trip's ziploc garbage bag.

I have a couple of Zpacks backpacks and find the same issue with reaching back for a water bottle...very difficult to do so (nothing to do with agility...its how they're positioned). Other than that, I'm happy with the Zpacks gear but willing to give the Ranger a look-see. I did purchase the Zpacks water bottle pouch that attaches to the shoulder strap but haven't used it yet.
@mikew3137 Жыл бұрын
I have mine on order, can't wait to get it! I usually use a shoulder strap bottle holder so the side pocket issue probably won't affect me. I really want to see how the shoulder straps compare to zpacks in terms of comfort and which 1" webbing belt I can get to work with the belt loops.
@FrozensAdventures Жыл бұрын
Just a word of caution. Smart water bottles do not fit in these shoulder straps pockets.

Thank you for the honest review, I’ve been watching this but waiting for a good review before pulling the trigger…. Not sure how I feel about the frameless packs vs. something like the Hyperlyte with the two aluminum stays to keep it from eating directly against your back…. I know it’s not summer and you didn’t have it out on too long of a hike but did you have any ventilation issues with it resting directly on your back?

According to the Ranger's specs online and in contrast to the EVLV, the Ranger is tapered so the top of the pack is "deeper" than the bottom and it should also have a longer extension collar than the 38L EVLV. Not to mention the material differences, bottom pocket, and camera clip design aspects. Really feels like the next iteration/evolution of the EVLV design language.
