First look at the Squier Paranormal Rascal HH Bass

@@loocorez0 I'm a newbie first off so take it as you will. Feels good. Strings are a little high but definitely playable. I was actually looking at the Epiphone Embassy and they are very comparable. So back to the SPR feels good and sounds good. I traded two lower end basses in at the same time so I got 10% off so I paid $409 - the trade value. The Epiphone Embassy sounds a little brighter but that's about it .

Those pickups are from a squier vintage modified telecaster bass that they don't make anymore. Except it says fender on the pup instead of suier. And the bridge is off a squier 60s vibe mustang bass.

A lot of folks have mentioned the bridge - they also use it on the Fender JMJ Mustang bass...no one has mentioned the pickups yet! That's interesting. I really like them, no matter where they came from!

Great question! I've never played the Sterling HH but I had a Stingray 5 single H and I don't feel like they sounded much alike at all - but I can't say for sure.

I’m definitely looking seriously at getting one of these, they look lovely, I’m not sure about the Shell Pink variant that’s just been released. I will definitely scotchbrite the neck like I did with my 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster and I’ll be going for flatwounds.

Any chance we could get a picture with the pickguard off? I am thinking that a set of sims quad pickups would be a perfect complement for this. Just need to see how the extra switches could be fitted. Thanks in advance. Great video.

I changed the strings today - it's not a swimming pool route and I didn't get a picture while I had it off but it's got a fair amount of room underneath there! Basically where the 3 way switch and the knobs are is wide open in the open space but where the pickups are it's notched specifically for dual pickups.

Nice looking bass! Is it smaller in size and length than a full scale jazz or p - body, headstock, etc. - or did Squier just move the bridge to make it a short scale? It looks to me like just a bridge placement.

I didn't realize it (though I sort of felt it) until I put it on a stand next to my Jazz bass and my P-bass but the body and neck are the same length as both a P and a J, they only moved the bridge just like you said, to add that shorter scale! It's why it didn't feel awkward to me (I'm a big guy, me and smaller instruments don't always get along)

I've tinkered with a couple fuzzes and distortions so far and had mixed results but that's not really surprising with bass. I haven't exactly bought the most "bass appropriate" pedals being that I'm primarily a guitarist :D

My 1973 Mustang Bass has that bridge, it’s a vintage style Mustang bridge. It’s oversized to make room for the string mutes, even though those aren’t present on the bass reviewed. Everybody removes them anyway.

I bought a pink one from Fender direct. I'd love to find someone in my area to pinstripe it! I like it better than my MIM Fender Rascal Bass with 3 single coil lipstick pickups. I asked CME to make an exclusive in purple. God, I'd love that!!! Curtis Novak makes some replacement pickups that'll fit it.

I use a Raapala digital scale used for weighing fish. It's accurate and has a max weight limit of 25 pounds. I've never seen a 25 pound guitar.

If you find the neck too sticky, try polishing it with carnauba wax, works extremely well without destroying the finish :)

I kind of like the Mustang, but as a bigger guy, the smaller body on it makes me feel HUGE and I don’t like it. I like that this is a full sized bass with the bridge moved to give me shorter scale length. They really, really knocked it out if the park with this one. I almost want to buy a second one for when thees inevitably get discontinued!

I think it just looks that way because the bridge extends so far forward from the saddles. It feels very natural in its placement for me

For a budget bass it’s cool. That bass lacks a lot in overall pervasive value. The pickups are not good in every situation of music. The are not interchangeable with almost any other alternatives. Cheaper wood selection, short scale. This bass “looks cool.” Somebody said let’s just throw out some concept here that looks cool and throw a price tag on it. It’s cool if you merely want a cheap bass. It’s horrible if you are looking for longevity and upgradable adaptability.

I'm sorry to hear that! Make sure to check out some other demos of it in case they use it in ways I haven't/wouldn't/are better at the audio engineering side of demo videos! I have also found out that Novak makes a wide range bass humbucker that can be used as an upgrade!
