My modern puukko now has a scandivex edge, cuts and particularly feathers really well. Just took a bit of work.

Gruggs has a good eye for affordable knives. I appreciate when someone reviews basic working man knives. We can't all afford Bark River and Reiff. Good luck fishin!✌️

Thanks mate, to be honest if I forked out the cost of a bark river, I think I would be too scared to lose it to take it out of the house. I really like 80CRV2 steel. Very dependable and generally not expensive.

@@KuukkeliBushcraft that's how I am too! I have a bunch of knives and my few nicer ones rarely ever leave my property. The utilitarian part of me would rather buy a few decent ones than just one really nice one. ✌️

i like the looks of that. It reminds me of one of your other knives but not sure which one. HAA! I was just typing that when you pulled out the Predator, which is the one I was trying to think of. That is one sweet blade. Have a good Sunday. Hello to the Beast.

Also a lot like the NKD Korppi but with a much higher grind. It's really sharp now, took some work though 🤣. The beast is sleeping now after a long day of playing with her friend Tiny. Tiny's real name is Quest but Tiny is a good nickname for a mastiff sized sled dog🤣. Thanks for watching Chris.

It cuts great now Gruggs, I may have removed a bit more metal than necessary as the sharpening choil is looking a bit smaller. It's a really nice knife to use now, and I am still very impressed with that sheath. Thanks for stopping by.

Im a fisherman myself. In fact that's my hobby that keeps me camping and outdoors. I love finding lakes and ponds. My favorite is following rivers. So a camping knife for me is also used for bait and cleaning. It's hard to beat a puukko. I do love my BPS knife. Really i believe im just gonna by puukko blades and try my hand at handle making. The blades are very reasonable and i don't need a full tang. If they are made right they are extremely strong. Always a pleasure to see your videos
@KuukkeliBushcraft
@KuukkeliBushcraft 2 ай бұрын
I don't think there is any real need for a full tang on a normal sized knife to be honest. It doesn't hurt to be on the safe side though. It is also a very nice project to make your own knife. Lauri blades are ridiculously cheap and extremely good quality. Maybe it's about time I made another knife making video. Stacked birch bark handle maybe. Thanks for watching mate.

This is why I just purchased the knife grinder attachment for my ken onion worksharp that i never use. I dont mind reprofiling an edge, but sometimes there is just too much steel . Also, making a good covex on those high grinds sometimes gets too thin just as you said. I'm looking forward to using it cause my hands have nerve issues. I can't do the larger projects anymore. it's just to taxing on my body. Lots of knives out there have so much potential , all ya need is the proper skills ... and tools 😏 to unfortunately have to fix them out of the box.
@KuukkeliBushcraft
@KuukkeliBushcraft 2 ай бұрын
The reprofiling can be quite rewarding when it goes right. When it goes wrong it is just a learning experience. Really happy with how the edge turned out on this one in the end. It now cuts beautifully and is a fantastic feathersticker ( the video was filmed a couple of days ago). I do however think I removed more metal than necessary, the sharpening choil is now somewhat smaller 😂. Thanks for watching mate.

@KuukkeliBushcraft Been there done that . I've reprofiled my Benchmade Bushcrafter 3 times . The edge has lost some life, but at least I can carve wood with it now. I had to extend that choil on mine a bit after cause it was tiny.

I have the za pas ultra outdoor and the expendable, both great, I totally agree with you on the steel being better, 1066 rusts far too easy and although it's easy to sharpen it doesn't hold an edge very well at all.
@KuukkeliBushcraft
@KuukkeliBushcraft Ай бұрын
It is a very interesting new company. Lots of their knives look great, wish I could afford to test more of them out🤣. I really like 80CRV2, but then again being in Finland I know and trust that steel. 1066 in my experience does rust as soon as it is within a mile of a raindrop🤣. Otherwise good steel, you just have to be a bit careful. Got a couple of BPS knives on the way. Looking forward to seeing how they compare. Thanks for watching mate.

Hi buddy, I ordered the same knife and am still waiting for it. I like the term Polski Puukko 😁. A puukko that doesn't cut well into wood seems like wasted money to me. But you can profile the cutting edge. Best wishes

Great showing of the blade. I already have plenty of Mora's and several of the BPS line, and even a Beavercraft and a Cold Steel Finn Hawk to fill that role. But I am very interested in finding a affordable leuuku, do you have any suggestions in that department?
@KuukkeliBushcraft
@KuukkeliBushcraft 2 ай бұрын
I certainly don't think I have come across a better value leuku than the eräpuu ones. I have come across something leuku like made abroad by someone like Mil-tec. Military mart in the UK used to sell them. Not in the same league I am afraid, but cheap at least. If there isn't one yet I am sure one of these eastern European manufacturers will start to produce a good usable leuku one day.After all even the Finnish ones are mostly foreign from a Sàmi perspective anyway 😂. Thanks for watching mate.

Gave up on all of that, took it in to work and got it on the linisher. Then went through the stones. Now got a convex edge that cuts really well and is holding nicely. Really happy with how it turned out. It was pretty bad.

@KuukkeliBushcraft
@KuukkeliBushcraft 2 ай бұрын
Hi Jörg, mine too. It's now got a convex edge and cuts extremely well. But it was quite a lot of work. I am liking it now, but for a younger version of me with less experience of sharpening tools, it would have been a waste of money. I will do a fuller review in a while. I wish I had got some before and after footage from the sharpening. I think I have at least me showing it cutting compared to the Predator from this video. But that was after some work. Thanks for watching mate. Have a great weekend.
@JPHomeland
@JPHomeland 2 ай бұрын
@@KuukkeliBushcraft I didn't feel like profiling it by hand. That's why I tried to do the work with a machine grindstone for the first time. Unfortunately, it didn't work as well as I had imagined. The knife ended up in the garbage can. It's sad that you don't have any before and after photos. I have the Predator in the induction-hardened form. It's one of my best knives. Have a great weekend buddy

@@JPHomeland I used the belt sander at work, I hate those grindstones. I have seen them ruin so many knives. It's a bit risky with the belt sander too. It's a shame they can't do better with the sharpening in Poland. The Predator is one of my best knives too. Lovely high grind, great blade size and shape. All round fantastic knife.
