I just returned from the BMW dealership where my new 5 series was parked between an i4 and an iX. The difference was like day and night. The 5 series just looks almost perfect while you wouldn’t recognise the other two as a BMW if someone would cover up the badges. I’m pretty sure that this is going to be my last BMW for a long while.

Absolutely true. It seems like we're dealing with a BMW copycat of a company, being a parody of the one we've known for decades. The designs after the M3 G80 look like they came from people who have no idea about design details, proportions, heritage. Doug DeMuro described this perfectly: BMW isn't the coolest kid on the block anymore and is reacting to change this. Problem is it's reacting spasmodically, in a completely wrong direction, denying all of its own characteristic design patterns and details. It's - no more, no less - a mess of a situation.

You've got clean, minimalistic interior design trends, materials and color combinations on simple forms Tesla/Lucid seem to integrate into their cars so well... That interior is absolutely amazing, the patterns in the mood lighting, the graphics on the infotainment, the different surfaces, top job by BMW. First impressions are much more positive compared to when I saw the new S-Class' interior for the first time. As for the outside, I love the M3/M4, I like the 4 Series now, the iX is alright, but I can't defend BMW for this, it is ugly. I hope their marketing strategy is along the lines of "make hideous looking cars, cause an uproar, dominate headlines of car news outlets, put BMW in the spotlight of premium car buyers again, smash it out of the park with interiors and win customers that way." For 15-20 years up to maybe 2017, BMW were such an anonymous brand, their cars looked so boring, inside and out. I guess trying to win customers through driving experience was not enough. Where it matters in the premium market is the tech, interior eye candy and material quality. They've massively upped their game in these aspects and I hope I'm right with the exterior design direction.

i don't hate the interior. it just baffles me how the put 500 electric motors everywhere to make everything powered. climate vents, door latches, charging door, armrest, glovebox, window shades, steering wheel and so much more. a lot of these seem unnecessary and more difficult and slower than just moving it yourself

I always dreamed of cars like this. I am big movie freak and fan and a car fan. So mixing them together just makes it epic. I also would dream about having a car that would have an epic theme to it that matches with your driving while having lights go with the flow of the environment. Kinda like the movie avatar in a way. It’s a very beautiful concept. But, unfortunately a car like this is very hard to get in our hands with that price. Also I wish it was an suv rather than a Sedan. I just wish there was an affordable version with just the ambient sounds kept and the beautiful lighting with the tv kept.

When you cut from i7 to X7 I honestly mistook the x7 for an x5. The grille's just get bigger and bigger, you know it's bad when the X7 looks like it has normal grill sizes.

Most people hate this look now. But I reckon things will be different in 6 or 12 months. Ever since the latest X5 came out, people have been complaining about the huge grill and the looks overall. But I found they grow on you over time. You will like this car when you see one in person.

I actually love the look...this is a gorgeous car, and the interior has finally surpassed Mercedes...just have to get assurances that it is reliable and the warranty covers all of these gizmos...then i'm in!

All hail the electrified Beaver. In time surely I will get used to this look... Btw the presenter guy's face expressions are totally Mass Effect Andromeda. More hilarious than the car itself. It's just savage. Some edit: what really got me is the futuristic Westworld S3 feeling watching the i7 videos on their website. The music, the design, everything. That was a crazy touch. I mean, in time surely will get used to the exterior look; but the interior is next level imo.

The giant grill is simply bad taste considering since this is an electric car. No need for engine cooling -- therefore grill should be tiny like 80s BMW or i8

When you're sitting inside this car you don't care about how it looks from the outside for sure! The interior simply outclasses the competition imo. About the exterior, well... I have to say I actually quite like the M3/M4 front grille but this is a bit much for me, and the side view is just boring. It seems quite hard to design the exterior of EVs, of course car companies want to make it somewhat different from ICE cars, futuristic but still give it character. One of the reasons why I still don't want to have an electric car is that pretty much all of them look either extremely boring or ugly.

Actually nowadays many new Chinese car brands make much better cars inside out. HiPhi X HiPhi Z, ZHIJI LS7, NIO ET 7/ET 5, HONGQI E-HS9, etc.

@@eagleying6300 I've only seen pictures of those cars but I don't think any of them have interiors as nice as this one. They're nice, but not as stylish and having as much individual character as this. Other car interiors I like are the Lotus SUV and I look forward to what Volvo and Polestar bring in their next-generation cars. I also like the Porsche Taycan interior. Genesis GV70 has an amazing interior. I think it's the best Genesis interior and Hyundai/Kia have interesting designs yet I think they're not quite on German/Japanese levels but very close. As for cars, I can't really say. Let a bunch of people test drive them head to head and we'll say what they have to say. BMW and Porsches are extremely well built vehicles. And they have so much experience with road sports over the years that I'm thinking it would be hard to top them. Mercedes and Audi as well and other makes. While China may top them in tech, it's a hard sell for me to think they're topped in body structure, solidity, chassis dynamics and ride/handling balance. And durability will have to be proven over many years.
