This isn't safer!! If you couldn't make it to the falls before how are you going to do that many stairs?! Not to mention that the only spot on the trail to the upper falls could've easily been fixed with a ladder like at grandfather mountain. This has destroyed the natural landscape, which is the opposite of conservation. Poor grading has made it a muddy mess and now we're finding out that this has impacted the river itself. It's much shallower now after all the debris. Hiking pages everywhere were furious about people stacking rocks bc of the wildlife in the river, but the entitled government can literally destroy habitats and the surrounding environment so less people can enjoy it lol make it make sense? Sorry but that trail was basically flat with a slight incline and a couple boulders to walk around. One of the easiest trails I've ever done. And now I'm not even sure I can handle the stairs. It's disrespectful and disgusting. 100% would've been better to close it.
