Hosted by Meriden Modena in the New Forest, and just 20 minutes away from TheCarGuys HQ, this launch invite involved an early afternoon look at the car before the evening party and the crowds descended. That meant, more of an up close look than was possible at the world premiere in September at Universo Ferrari. And that means you get a better detailed look too.
So, join us for a somewhat relaxed walkaround the new F8 Spider - what’s different compared to the 488? How quick is it? Has Ferrari changed the interior much? Is it really worth buying one if you already have a 488? All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode.

Love when you take us all along with you Damian. The Spider is gorgeous, no question, but if it were my money, the F8 Tributo with that F40 style rear screen with slats over the engine bay wins. Wonderful design touch and tremendous new Ferrari. Totally agree with your strategy. Enjoy the Tributo... and if a special edition comes up, snap that one up. PS. Went to my dealer, Stratstone Ferrari Wilmslow last Wednesday to see the same car. Lovely motor. A beautiful evolution of the 488 Spider. Started it up in the showroom. It was then that I realised that why I’m still sticking to my 458 Spider unless Ferrari can improve on the acoustics. That’s my take chaps.

It's a good-looking machine but not really one I lust after. When the 458 came out my jaw dropped, Same with the F12. I kind of miss that with the newer cars Ferrari has launched recently.

With the spider you will be able to hear the engine better and I heard the lexan on the Tributo makes the rear visibility more difficult. Is that true?

You are right, but if the magic is lost the numbers will maybe drop then everyone has lost out. And then it’s just another car company producing great cars but with some magic lost. I may be on my own here but how ever good say Rolls Royce are I think there is just something missing now, and I know that might be because they are owned by someone with some other company’s parts in places but it’s the heritage and history that make car companies like Ferrari and Rolls

Spot on Damian. It’s hard to stomach the sheer frequency of Ferrari launches 🚀 and the inevitable disappointment of any Ferrari punter who hasn’t even received delivery of their dream order only to find out that such event has been surpassed by a new launch making your dream feel more than a bit less special. A pity that Ferrari have chosen this path although I would dare to say that it is rooted in “arrogance” since they know they can get away with it and they don’t literally don’t give a about their Tifosi clientele. Perhaps they are due a reality check. On that note, can’t wait to read and see an upcoming Tesla Roaster 2 versus SF 90 Stradale review! 😳

If I owned more than one iteration of this Ferrari, yes. I would want a fixed top as one of them. However, if I could only own one, I personally would go for the spider. How many track days out of any year could I possibly go to. I think less than five.

Stunning looking car. Agree with your decision to keep the hard top with lexan rear window. Do you know if either F8 model has rear wheel steering? Would seem to be a sensible option for a car with this much power and torque.

In terms of design, 488 is better but there's no reason why getting a turbo ferrari, so i'm stick to the 458

I think so as well, the thinner headlights make the front look too wide. Felt like they didn't know what to do after the 488, tried to copy the Hurican and failed.

They've done pretty well on exterior styling, interior is a letdown and hasn't evolved/improved since 458 which would be a deal breaker for me, regardless of what colour the seats are or how much carbon they stick to it.

I guess Luca di Montezemolo is going crazy watching the exclusivity he took so much time building goes out the window with a new car every few months. That’s McLarens’s mistake all over again. It’s gonna crush values of used cars and the new car buyers are not gonna be happy. Until recently you could buy a Ferrari, enjoy it a bit and get out with minimal loss, by the look of it those days are gone. On the other hand I hope the days of buy a lusso or portofino to get a mid engine car are gone. What Montezemolo achieved was great for long time customers but horrible for people wanting to get a taste for the brand and could not afford to buy 2-3 cars. The next few years shall be interesting

meeting tom at HR owen in mayfair on monday to try it.. it costs a bomb though ive been told its around £240,000 clean but you can stick another 30k on top if you want any wheels etc. i like my cars black however the silvers hot as fuck, dark silver would be nice.. i may even video it and post it online.. i am one very excited puppy.. well it is xmas!

No doubt it is a beautiful car. This is a very difficult choice. The F8 coupe is also a beautiful car. I guess it is really down to which car ticks the most boxes for you. The other thing is if it was your only Ferrari the choice might be different then the decision you face. If I owed the cars you do I would buy the F8 coupe and change my 812 coupe to the GTS. That I think is a fantastic duo of cars.

Very interesting business model Ferrari has. Introduce a new car, get buyers, never ship the new car, introduce the next model that replaces the ones you haven't shipped to the customers yet, repeat...buyers will just keep giving Ferrari money and never actually get a new car. They are geniuses!

Hate to say it but the new Corvette C8 has this beat for me. Its about to be announced with RHD for the British market and Ferrari dosent one up manship GM in its design cues anymore. The C8s design dosent need that voluptuous look to make a statement. I rather like GMs fighter plane layout.

I have to admit I'm starting to lose track of the current Ferrari line up, as well as a lot of the other exotic car makers for that matter. From a kid into my 20s I knew them all but these days if I take my eye off the ball for a few months and step back in there's yet another more hardcore version launched of the current model, alongside the replacement base model, speciale this, pista that, tributo......exhausting. Appreciate you guys bringing us these in depth videos, gives me half a chance of keeping somewhat up to date. Oh, and ALWAYS the hardtop. Spiders for the more reserved, posing-mobiles

Skip it... You have the pista spider coming and the 458 speciale aperta in the garage. Why add a non special edition convertible when you have those two gems to choose from on any given day. Might as well get something you can beat the hell out of on track without fear, or better yet just go balls out and join the challenge Ferrari race program and go racing in a REAL Ferrari race car! Or for one-third the price with lower maintenance time and costs, get a fully equipped C8 Corvette, 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, naturally aspirated, advanced electronics, dual clutch transmission, removable top or a convertible (spider), a similar metallic white with tan interior, etc. Astounding.

IDK if it is because of the color scheme in this car,but it looks just generic rich folk convertible hypercar number 100... I wish i had something exciting ta say about the F8 in general,but i just dont connect with its design the same way i didn't with the 488 until the Pista came out. Damian have a very accurate taste so i trust he will make the right decision.

Hi Lads: this is the 458 Canadian guy. I`d buy the F8 spider because you get 2 cars in one. Forget that Lexan screen in the back....it`s not worth 200k quid.

if you're not looking to get that extra tenths of a second off your track time i don't see why you would get the hard top. there are way more pros than cons when driving a convertible, the biggest one probably being the noise/theater, parking is ridiculously easy, checking your blind spot. For everyday use it's the clear winner, i'd go spider and being that it is ferrari, the performance vs a hardtop isn't going to be compromised by all that much if at all. Probably won't notice unless you take both car to the limit...spider for me please!

That particular car toured all over Europe, I suppose. I have been sitting in it at the presentation in Düsseldorf on November 20 th 2019. Gorgeous! Take a look at the wheels at 3:36 forward. The design of the rims is different in that way, that it is mirrored from one side of the car to the other.

Looks really awesome. Love the tan leather interior - the seats, in particular, look great! Not sure about those wheels, though - I feel Ferrari needs to up its wheel game. Also, I'd have liked to have seen part of the rear engine cover in glass - maybe glass slats instead of the carbon fibre.

Hardtop convertible over straight hard top any day. Two seaters demand air in your hair. BTW rag tops don’t do it do me - they just look like a car with its top chopped off.

Showing the engine is a biggie just like the 16M spider You could put the top down and see the engine unfortunately you cannot see the engine with this spider.with the lack of raw noise that this car makes you have to have something good going for it like saying the engine which makes it very classic. Otherwise with the top down it just looks like a McLaren in a different kind of way lol
