The " two in the middle " you refer to are Dr Cody (Alfre Woodard) and Mark Petrie (Jordan Preston Carter), and they are not mother and son in the movie or in real life. No relation whatsoever!! The picture of vampire Kurt Barlow (Alexander Ward) with his hand on father Callahan's face(John Benjamin Hickey) is a scene that was probably cut from the movie, as Gary Dauberman's original cut was three hours long, and the suits ordered it be cut down to under two hours, as they did not want a three hour movie on their hands.

The movie SHOULD have been 3 hours because it felt rushed and lots of details missed
