It´s not a good job, it´s not even a great job, it´s absolutely fantastic. To me one of the most impressive things is the team-spirit - "to sail with a bunch of good friends". Thats the way to do it. I´m super excited to escort the boat to Hamburg in September being christened.

Looks awesome. Wonder why foils seem more forward but may be for stability and going into the wind. Also to change foil configuration seems might help both of these. Also, the curvature of the foils as seen in a particular kind of cricket bat is interesting. The shape would seem to help power the ball forward, higher up in the air so it passes over the boundary or "out of the park" in American baseball parlance. Would this stronger forward lift generate faster boatspeed particularly going into the wind or generate an even greater "push" off the wind? Aft deckhouse seems a safety factor also with boom on deck level that no one will need to go on deck if boom swings wildly out of control in a bad storm. Below deck winches keeps weight centered. High narrow bow safer too. Looking forward to sea trial data. Looks fast and stalwart. Solidly designed hull, gear and spars could prove hardworking and loyal with no breakdown and heavier loads scrutinized by sensors. Looking Great!

Booms at deck level isn’t like that as a safety factor. Take a look at the America’s Cup boats, boom almost on the deck to catch the most wind! The Vendee Globe boats had solid carbon superstructure too but some developed massive cracks and needed repairing en route so a “solidly designed hull” means nothing until tested. At 40 knots and foiling the stresses are hard to predict in digital modeling.

I'm interested to know if anyone has incorporated some sort of hydroelectric generator into a yacht, possibly in the keel or something? To supplement the photovoltaic cells. I don't know if it would create too much drag or if it might even be possible to use said generator as an azimuth thruster as well.

Excellent question! Most IMOCAs do use hydrogenerators that they attach to the transom, it can be lowered in the water when needed and taken out when you want to reduce drag. And fun fact, it was developed by an engineer: the winner of the last Vendée Globe!

@@Outland9000 I think the skipper actually mentioned the camera for inspecting the rudders can also see the hydrogenerator. Probably a nicer way to check it than jumping overboard in the Southern Ocean. Not that much on this boat seems to be designed for comfort...

Boats are going faster and faster which makes being outside exhausting. Hence the enclosed cockpits of the newer boats.

Non effectivement. Depuis quelques années les IMOCA privilégient des mâts-ailes avec des outriggers plutôt qu'un mât classique avec des barres de flèches.
