We need this style of architecture to come back all over the United States. It is hopeful and aspirational. I think 60 years of building soulless glass cubes, shopping centers with box stores, and copy-and-paste vinyl stick houses, our cities and towns have become bland at best. I think when places are beautiful and awe-inspiring, everyone cares more.

@carstarsarstenstesenn7 ай бұрын
Yeah a lot of people agree with you but it's far more expensive to build like this than it was in the early 20th century. Labor is a lot more expensive and stone workers/craftsmen to do the ornamental work are a lot less common. Materials are also more expensive, and while people may not like all the glass and steel of modernism, it's just what the clients want. That being said I would love to see more buildings take inspiration from our country's rich and often lost history of architecture, and many new buildings have done so like Beckford Tower, 150 East 78th Street, and One Bennet Park. I would love to see more brickwork, stone, and terra cotta, but it's very expensive and who's gonna pay for that?
@Dan0__7 ай бұрын
To the op, you are ABSOLUTELY correct! Everything doesn't have to be about money, and it wasn't until around the 1980s... But who would remember that. We need to do things for the human spirit! There are opportunities everywhere!
@joshua_a_boehm6 ай бұрын
@@carstarsarstenstesenn Glass and steel are expensive to build with, and are expensive structures to heat/cool. You can build well done architecture for less to 10% more than a stereotypical modern building. The stone carving won't even be that expensive within the next decade with AI and CNC technology. There is a company based out of NYC doing this. If more construction takes place with these methods it will further drive down the costs. A return of beautiful well crafted buildings is an extremely attainable future with enough push behind it.

@@armorpro573 Amtrak has already received federal funding to extend service from Detroit to Toronto. The current plan is to build a customs facility on the Canadian side of the river but I think it would make more sense for customs to occur on the US side since there are more train connections (to Pontiac and to Toledo) and because Detroit is much bigger than Windsor. Detroit was referred to as the Paris of America because of the very wide boulevards and avenues, the beautiful architecture, the trees, and the land area surrounding buildings. There was room to breathe and grow. It felt spacious. There was a time when there was so much economic affluence in Detroit, that the people with all that money literally didn't know what to do with it. That money ended up in architecture and engineering in the form of educational development, universities, schools, churches, the arts, museums, libraries, theatres, and so on. It was impressive. And then greed destroyed almost all of it.
