Available at Home Depot in about 2 weeks.
I was not paid for this review unless you consider an overnight stay at the Springhill Suites and some finger food being paid.
I did get first look and access to RYOBI's newest tools and that's nothing but fun for me and sometimes, believe it or not, I like to be paid in fun.

LCN, thanks for the review. Ryobi has had this as "coming soon" for almost a year, this was supposed to be my birthday(Nov) and Christmasgift from my wife, obviously that didn't happen. I have over 30 18v ryobi power tools and about 5 40v tools. I don't need anymore 18v batteries, I wish they sold it as bare tool only and offered a 40v version. Thanks again.

I bought a sunjoe for $120 CAD 4 years ago and love it. I use it every year in Vancouver, BC as for some reason our grass here grows like crazy in spring and summer and ends up choking itself off. It is also a perfect preparation tool for overseeding/reseeding I really don't see why you wouldn't use it once a year in the spring before you overseed.

The Ryobi 18v equipment works well. I've had an edger and most of their small tools for years and love them. I recently purchased one of their 40v multi-speed blowers and haven't fired up my old gas blower since. I highly recommend all their products to anyone that is going to use the equipment around their house.

Ryobi makes quality/value tools for non-professionals. They are not peers with Dewalt, Milwaukee, or Makita. I am fully invested in the Ryobi universe and completely satisfied (great deals at Home Depot in April/May). That said, I’m scratching my head as to why Ryobi didn’t go straight to 40v with this product.

This thing is not $299. As I type this, it is now available at Home Depot for the low low price of $399 (some locations list it at $429). I was all in at $299. But I'm going to pass at that price. That's more than some of Ryobi's lawnmowers.

Bought one over Christmas and had it shipped from the UK. Still in the box as Im in the transition zone and no use just yet but excited to give it a go being 99% of my tools are 18v and 40v Ryobi. I talked to a guy that has one here in the states trying to convert it into a 40v scarifier/dethatcher via a 3D print adapter. Not sure how that works but regardless will be fun to see how it holds up and not having to drag around a cord like on the SunJoe.

For something you might use 1/year, I think it's better to just get a corded Sun Joe dethatcher. The cord really isn't that much of a hassle. However, I agree if you already have that line of tools and want some extra batteries, this is an easy way to get them.

my first thought is "how do those tines treat stolins". Secondly, "how small can this tool get?" it looks like it folds up a bit smaller than a mower, and being such an infrequent tool, storage would become important IMO.

@@stephanie09.11 I do the same. It's just bag after bag when I do it every 3-4 years. Would be nice to have a bag on it, to collect, then now to clean up the rest. The battery unit doesn't come with a scarier and by the time I invest in a battery and charger, I might as well just get the Ryobi as I already have their tools for my house. Might work great for someone else, just not a great investment for me. I don't need a battery sitting around for 3-4 years that never gets used. I already have to deal with that being as the only EGO product I have is a snowblower and it drives me nuts only using the batteries in winter...lol

Here's a question about dethatchers. Everyone says don't dethatch a St Augustine lawn. And I can see why when it's in full growth. BUT, can dethatching be done when the grass is in the winter dormant stage? With all the heavy clippings that end up on the ground from summer mowing, would dormant season dethatching tear up the stolon's too much?

I have an electric dethatcher I got for about $100 that works incredibly well. The bag on the back of this is a joke. I would have to empty it probably 100x on a 10k sq ft lawn. Better to vac it up with a mower bag or rake into contractor bags. Battery powered is not the way to go IMO. A good dethatch takes time. Plug it in and dethatch all day if needed.

I’m just really surprised with Ryobi and their HP set. They sell them with this new performance and capacity but the batteries that come with don’t allow them to perform to the fullest extent. They make you buy the “HP” batteries separate. Idk…

@Wrencheasy 2 жыл бұрын
They’ve said the new HP line has that tech strictly built into the tool and doesn’t require the HP battery to take advantage of it. Doesn’t totally make sense to me, I came into the line when they had the brushless line starting up that required hp batts with 2 terminals to match brushless tools 2 terminals but that’s the deal now, not required for HP tools.

A HP tool that does not include any HP batteries but two regular older model batteries that cost $90 for pack of two at Home Depot (shown on the video as well as Home Depot site)... Why is Ryobi cheap out? The fan is super great to clip onto the lawnmower to keep cool when mowing in hot days. AWD mower... why? Does it come with X Drive??😂

It's not heavy enough, IMHO to poke holes in the soil.

Perhaps a adapter from Ryobi to Milwaukee if you own Milwaukee tools.
