Thank You Holly! I'm not sure why I hadn't went with one earlier....but I think the "sound qualities" of their flutes have changed over the years. I don't think they were quite this clear sounding in the past when I had tried them.

Perhaps the nicest looking simple block design I've seen.

I have Stellar's F#4 premiere in walnut and love it! The embroidery wrap is a nice touch. They are handmade by Lily (co-owner) and supposedly each one is unique.

Thank you James! I was very impressed with this "Hickory" "Premiere" Flute!

What an amazing review! Thank you for taking the time to shoot this! Our flutes are milled in half, the seam is along the top and bottom to allow us to finley mill the sound holes. It's really special to see your first reaction to one of our flutes. -Lily

I love the tone of the Stellar flute, I have only one in my collection as all my others are High Spirits of which I’m obsessed! Best, Harry

Very nice sounding flute and there was absolutely nothing wrong with your playing technique on that flute sounded marvelous. In hickory is not too hard to get you can just grab some old ax handles and have some good flute wood.

Greetings Brent, I always look forward to your flute reviews. I was so excited that you were reviewing a stellar flute and really appreciate an independent review. The flute sounded really beautiful and warm and clear. Really Lovely tone. May I ask how do you think it responds in the upper register?
@BrentAdams Жыл бұрын
Thank You Frank. My Stellar Flute responds beautifully in the upper, above the octave, notes. It does "better" on the highest note, when I partially cover the 2nd hole down from the top...or "crack" it open a little. If I only close the two center holes......it really needs a huge burst of air to get it to sound without sliding into it from the next lower note. I hope this makes sense to you. I would rate it as slightly better than average in my experience.

Thank you Brent, you really do provide an invaluable service to the flute community with these flute reviews. Thank you so much, we greatly appreciate it. I am in the market right now for a F # flute, and I was hoping to get one that responds well in the upper register. Flutes that I have that respond best in the upper register Interestingly, enough is my High Spirits flute. May I ask if you think they respond about the same in the upper register. I have a high spirits flute in G and to get the upper third octave note accurately I have to slightly crack the second hole from the top as you described in your response. May I ask if you think they respond about the same in the upper register? As you know this is a great time year to buy high spirits flute also. Thank you Brent, wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year

@@frankkrakie2540 Your comments are greatly appreciated, my Friend. I have a High Spirits Standard series (as I call them. I believe they call them "Traditional") "F#4" flute made from Madrone (an unusual wood choice for then in this series...and very hard!). It plays the above the octave notes a little easier than the Stellar when I compare the two directly. Remember... no two flutes play exactly the same.... and I believe that Lily might be able to test out any flute that you may be thinking about purchasing from Stellar. They seem to have a short playing video of any Premiere Flute that you might be interested in when checking on the one that I purchased (I don't believe that Lily plays those higher notes though on the sound samples). They also offer to trade in a flute that doesn't meet your expectations from what I understand. High Spirits doesn't seem to be quite as helpful in my personal experience. Hope this helps...

@@frankkrakie2540 Update..... when I cover the #2 & #3 holes (counting from the upper end down) and play the #2,3 &4 holes closed, the Stellar Flute that I have plays that note just as easily as the H.S. when I play that one with the #3 &4 holes closed. It will depend then on how comfortable you are with possibly a different fingering choice to get that highest note easily.

@@BrentAdams Thank you so much Brent, I checked the stellar website, and the only flutes they have right now in F# is Poplar and Butternut, both as you know, are softer Woods. I was hoping to get a flute with a little harder wood as I usually prefer the sound. So we will see, I’ll let you know what I decide. thank you so much again for your input.
