My personal preference I am not a fan of Benchmade, but I love the axis lock design. This looks like a fantastic folder! I have a few knives in 440 steel and for my uses I can handle it, a couple runs on ceramic and your good to go again.

yeah i bought a bug out today in the morning and returned it 6hrs later😂 fucking $171 for a plastic scales that are flimsy af then to get g10 scales is like $65 😂 fuck that it is a beautiful knife but for that price its definitely not worth is, then i headed over to rei and bought the gerber scout and its was better in my opinion

Looking really good. Let’s hope they did a good job with the heat treat and 440a will be just fine
@hunterglaspell Жыл бұрын
The anti rotation part is the fact that a piece of metal from the clip folds into the handle and stabilized the clip to the handle. In addition, a glass breaker is plenty useful in a camping environment if you crash on your way to the spot you are going (which is generally out in the middle of nowhere)

I thought I didn't like it when I first got mine but I carried it for a few days and I really like it. You get used to the pivot lock button, the 440a blade holds up better than any 440 blade I've ever seen, haven't had to sharpen it yet in almost a month and still shaving sharp. The dlc coating scratches pretty easily and the scales are way smoother than most micarta but Gerber is coming back slowly but surely I think. For the price point there are many better knives but I like the Scout over all. Fits my hand better than most knives that size as I have little girl hands 😂😂😂

It wasn’t the failed attempt at a bugout flex that made me realize none of those knives have been used to cut anything besides the line for meatballs in Ikea. It was when you mentioned spending $130 on a Gerber. I bet you drive a lifted Jeep Wrangler with big tires you can’t change on your own.

I bet that Gerber is a sturdier knife compared to those other light weight $200 knives.
@kitrecon Жыл бұрын
Aside from the steel, sturdier than the bugout for sure. Presidio II definitely not.

Even in 8cr13mov this would be a good folded. But 440a? No. Why not even 440c? For $60 i would expect at least VG10 or 14c28n

People forget how difficult it can be to sharpen S30V or (worse yet) S35VN. With 440A, you could sharpen your knife on the top edge of your car window. This Gerber also locks and unlocks easier than any BM ive ever owned (and, truth be told, they're charging a premium for CPM-154 and S30V as though it's S45, S90 or Rex 45. In other words, imo overpriced. And, with the one I bought, I haven't found any QC issues like I have with almost every BM. Id ever bought. (Full disclosure: I either returned them or sold them all.) Who wants to pay north of $120 for S30V (unless its a ZT 0350, which is worth it. I've torn apart pallets with one. I Wouldn't try that with a BM. The new ZTs are simply pocket jewelry though. Very much not worth the price they're demanding for 20CV.)

@timbrownandtibetanmonkonly605211 ай бұрын
EDC this blade, and used for camping. Makes good fire sticks, cleans trout well, batoned 1 inch sticks, used for food prep. Thanks to the handle and blade shape it does it all satisfactory. I wish it was better steel, but shockingly I've had no chips on the edge. A couple swipes with a ceramic rod and strop, quickly puts the razor sharp edge on again. It's a great designed handle and blade shape for a ton of things, but I wouldn't recommend it because of the steel. I'm trying to give Gerber a chance, and buy American. But honestly for the money you can get better steel.
@kitrecon11 ай бұрын
@timbrownandtibetanmonkonly6052 yeah agreed! They have some great designs but somehow always come up short on the steel (for the price).

@@samturner6455 what makes a steel a “camp steel” ?
@samturner6455 Жыл бұрын
Most camping knives have tool steels o1, a2, 1095, 3v, 80cr. Many more now for stain less 14c28n made for Kershaw by sandvic to replace camp steel 13c26 or abel more prone to rusting than 14c28n nitrogen infused steel. 12c27, 154cm, 440c is okay.it is about the steels toughness. Now s30v would be good for cutting tomatoes and carving on sticks toughness is not need for that. Unless you carving on hard maple
