Hello, and a very warm (pun-intended) welcome to my home, Singapore! The nightly show known as Garden Rhapsody that you watched at GBTB is a themed display which rotates every month to cover several different occasions of the year (e.g Chinese New Year, National Day, Christmas and other fun themes such as retro, Asian, opera and the list goes on per their official website). The nightly show at Marina Bay Sands (MBS), known as Spectra, is always a pleasure to watch as it serves as a reward for myself completing a 20+ km bike ride from the east side where I live, especially after enduring a hard day at work - good for viewing from both on-site and across the bay! Wishing you both a pleasant stay in my home! We may be one of those Asian workhorses, but we do have a big habit of preserving nature as you will see at almost every nook and cranny here!

Hey there! 😊 Thanks so much for the warm welcome to your incredible city, Singapore! It’s safe to say we were blown away by how unique and vibrant it is - truly a little gem on this massive rock. 🌍 And wow, a 20+ km bike ride just to catch the Spectra show? You’re a true champion! 🚴♂️ It’s workhorses like yourself who really know how to enjoy the finer things in life. Your energy and appreciation for the little details here are definitely inspiring, and it’s people like you that make Singapore the great place it is! We applaud you, keep doing whatever it is you do 💪 Your facts are super interesting, and we’re so glad to hear them - your big habit is definitely worth every penny! Thanks again for sharing your insights with us, and for the warm wishes - we’re truly grateful! From our home (United Kingdom 🇬🇧) to yours, we wish you all the best! Hope to see you around! 🙌🇸🇬❤️

@@andrew_patrycja Appreciate your heartwarming reply! If you still have time, do check out the Mandai Wildlife Reserve (i.e Bird Paradise - Asia's largest bird park opened in 2023 with an open concept, the zoo, River Safari and Night Safari - the world's first nocturnal zoo). Every penny paid there goes to upkeeping, conservation and staff wages 😊 The Treetop Walk @ MacRitchie is free and well worth the hike if the weather is fine. The Botanic Gardens (including National Orchid Garden) are worth your time too! Food-wise, do try our staple food: chicken rice, roast pork rice, fishball noodles, nasi lemak, kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs, roti prata etc. Beyond that, SG is a cultural melting pot for food, art and traditional customs. Hawker centres are scattered all over the island, just need to stand by some cash.

@@andrew_patrycja It's a blessing to have gracious visitors like yourselves savouring our island's offerings! Yes, anything to keep fit to 'tahan' (endure) work and life! And we don't often enjoy this cool, breezy weather all-year, so yeap, take it! 😂 Marina Bay at night is a photographer's practice arena for low light and cityscapes, too! It's where I built up my self-taught hobby for the last 12 years. I myself admire the UK's offerings from sights, natural sceneries and education! I was stationed in Glasgow for 1 month nine years back to fulfil an overseas aerospace design conceptual group assignment before I solo-travelled around London and Manchester the 7 days following the project closure. I would like to pay another visit to Scotland someday, without the obligation to complete assignments!

Actually beyond the veneer of our many touristy attractions, Singapore has many more interesting historical, social, cultural, infrastructural dynamics that are uniquely interesting. And most of them are free to experience. Eg our satellite towns & public housing, historical ethnic enclaves, our rich hawker and food history and delicacies, our multicultural and multiracial communities, our infrastructure- how the city is designed and functions.

The people in Singapore complain about the heat too all the time, despite living here all these years 😅
@andrew_patrycja2 күн бұрын
Oh, good! That makes us feel better about whining 😅 Every British person always complains about the weather - too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry 😂 Honestly, the complaining is just a facade because most Brits are happy with the slightest of things. Staying humble is key! When we first arrived in Singapore, we were actually looking forward to the rain. But after visiting Universal Studios Singapore, we quickly learned that when it rains here, it’s a massive downpour ⛈️ My hat goes off to Singaporeans for enduring the weather, but honestly, I completely understand why they stay - it’s an amazing country! 🇸🇬

@@andrew_patrycja Hahaha we can't help it too, thanks to our geographical position (i.e. near the equator, surrounded by sea). I suppose there are pros and cons to this, though. We hear of people living further from the equator, roasting on the skin when the sun is direct with temperatures feeling way hotter than what we're already facing here. Some come here to escape the freezing cold, whereas some come here to escape the direct sun radiation in dryer countries. Part of the reason why it's not *that* hot even with the sun shining in its full glory is due to our green spaces and surrounding seas cooling our land. Why some areas get hit harder with rain is due to transpiration from our catchment nature reserves.

Great question! We’re both from the UK (United Kingdom), more specifically from a county called Devon. Andrew is from Cheshire, and I (Patrycja) am originally from Poland 🇵🇱. Funny enough, our flags are quite similar to Singapore’s! 🤗 We’ve been together for almost 10 years! 😯

Traveller Lodge at St George's??
@andrew_patrycja2 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! 😊 Yes, you’re absolutely correct-it does seem like Traveller@SG Hostel has undergone some changes since we last visited. Thanks to your tip, I was able to Google it, and the refurbishment looks quite good! The reviews are pretty decent too. Have you stayed there yourself? I’m thinking about revisiting in January and would love to hear your thoughts - would you recommend it after their refit? Let me know! 👍

The pod hotels really dont give a damn, they know Singapore is expensive, and budget backpackers don't have much of a choice really. The only alternative is to find accomodations outside the the city which is 30 mins away.
@andrew_patrycjaКүн бұрын
Accommodation prices in Singapore are definitely on the higher side, and we noticed a diverse mix of travelers staying in pod hotels - from budget backpackers to business visitors passing through. That’s a great point about exploring options outside the city. It’s something we’ll keep in mind for future trips, especially with Singapore’s fantastic and affordable public transport. Thanks for the tip! 😊
