Everyone must make their own choices but I would never personally push anyone in the direction of self training. Have a great day.
@erikpfingstner39023 ай бұрын
@@ponasfeliksas5299 Well let me reply instead: It is indeed possible to self teach paramotor or paraglider. But most people want to get airborn too quickly. Thus they skip preparation steps which are need for doing so safely. I know 2 guys who self taught paragliding. One did his homework and prepared a lot, the other one got airborn almost completely unprepared. He crashed on his second flight - ankle broken, 2 vertebrae got a small crack and his brand new wing got molten by a power line. Both pilots had big balls, one was (a bit) crazy. The question is not if it possible to self teach, it is whether you have the right set of mind to do so safely. In the film above, Jason had done some preps and learning, but definitely NOT enough. His choice of terrain was not good for a first flight (many obstacles) and his landing aproach was very dangerous (just look at it again).

@ryandinan3 жыл бұрын
Hey, if you want to self-train, that's entirely your decision. I know someone who self-trained and he's an excellent pilot - but he definitely had other pilots around him that he took lots of advice and instruction from. So, in reality, he didn't really self-train, but he never went through an official course either... At any rate - once you're in the air - you need to fly by the rules, otherwise you risk putting the entire sport in jeopardy (flying directly over houses is a no-no). Get altitude and build familiarity with the wing and motor. Don't overdo anything - pull gentle brakes at first. Make gentle throttle corrections. For landing, make sure you're into the wind (get yourself a nice extendable pole with a long streamer), kill the motor at 80ft or so, go hands up and let that wing build speed. Speed is what gives you flare authority. Be looking out to the horizon (and slightly down) - gently add pressure - just enough to feel the wing - and at 3-4 feet above the ground, start adding more brake pressure to round out your descent. You should be flying just above and parallel to the ground; keep progressively adding brakes all the way down to your butt and walk it out. The idea of making a good landing, is "practicing NOT landing"; the longer you can hold yourself off the ground as you come in, the softer and gentler the landing. Good luck to you - and fly responsibly and safely!

Don’t think I have the bottle to do that. But I have certainly thought about it because I pick up on things like this very quickly And easily. I hate the thought of spending all that money on training when I may only require a few hrs of training.

i can assure you, its going to take more than a few hours of training to get you airborne. then a whole hell of a lot more to get you airborne with consistency. the learning curve is steep as hell, and fucking up is not fun. not to mention you have to learn about weather patterns, aeronautical charts, airspace, ect ect. plus to top it off you have someone who can help sort out maintenance issues, most of the time for free.

Some of the things you learn in training you can't learn by trial and error. Error = DEATH. This dude doesn't know what he doesn't know and was lucky to get away with it. There were multiple times in this video that things could have gone horribly wrong and he didn't even know what situations to avoid. He has no throttle control and is flying close to the ground. One of those times that he let off the throttle the wing could have surged in front of him. His response would have been to gas it and it would have plowed him straight into the ground. When life and limb is on the line luck is a poor training technique. Training is cheap compared to hospital bills and/or funeral expenses. This video is a perfect example of what not to do.

@@cloudkicker9593 I recon I could do a much better job. Iv always had some kind of understanding of POF. My dad has a small plane. And I remember flying a few things in the air cadets when I was 15. like single engine plane and glider etc. But u are right I shouldn’t do it without training. I do feel I’m half way there by watching a lot of videos and techniques others have shown me. I think I could take off but I wouldn’t want to get the landing wrong and cost myself a lot of repairs.

guessing altitude was limited due to the massive balls for not getting training done..

Shit like this is what gets a single person hurt or in trouble and can ruin the sport as more regulations are created to prevent said injuries.
