As a quadriplegic and former surfer, this video gives me a sense of freedom that I haven't experienced in a long time. Reminds me of a day I caught some 4' rollers on my little six-four egg, just south of the pier in Huntington with no one out. Sweet! Thanks for the waves man, Mucho Mahalo Plenty. I really appreciate it. Rock-n-Shaka bra! Kevin

Kevin Kuklish Hey Kevin. Thanks for the great comment. I had an egg at one stage too and loved it. I have found it really interesting that the video has had some meaning for you on a personal level. I am an occupational therapist and that actually fits in really well with what I love about OT. I get really excited about the thought of people overcoming barriers to do the things they enjoy in life and I'm glad you were able to experience something through my video.
@wowenterprises21187 жыл бұрын
Kyle, I'm not sure you're aware of this but I thought as a therapist, it might be kind of cool to pass this along to some of your clients. I went to school out in California for chiropractic in my former life. During that time I became aware of a group dedicated to help paraplegic/quadriplegic and just generally anyone that can not surf by themselves due to injury or condition get their boards wet once more. They are called Life Rolls on. The group is actually featured in a prominent surf film, though I cannot recall which one.. Oh! I think it might be Step into Liquid. Anyway, the founder Jesse was injured and is now in a wheelchair. I think he used to be a pro surfer and then started this group to help others who love surfing as much as he did. He is great friends with Rob Machado, who helped him with this and they now help countless others get back in the water. So I thought you might want to know so you could pass this along to whomever. I think I might trek back to California one day and look them up.

Hey thanks for the nice complements guys. This video was shot on the Gold Coast. This was shot with the GoPro Hero 3 Silver. I just had it stuck in my mouth. I have just been biting on the orange foam float thing. It usually looks ok but hurts the jaw after a while. I think most guys use the head mount plastic bit to stick in your mouth.

So im still learning and I finally transitioned to a short board about 7 months ago. Been surfing alot but all I can do is just turn and go down the line. I get stiff when I stand up and surf, because I dont know what to do next. Or sometimes ill catch a wave, turn and go down the line, and the wave just breaks. Any tips or advice? I would appreciate it.
@jamescudmore47369 жыл бұрын
+HollywoodWestern those waves he was surfing are perfect there arnt waves like that everwhere. if ue feeling stiff try stretching before a surf and if u r having trouble turning try moving your feet back a bit and maybe bend your knees more but thats just my advice and im no kelly slater
@fabioroppa34378 жыл бұрын
+Dash You may be using the wrong kind of surfboard to you and/or the waves you are surfing.
@brentclifford93998 жыл бұрын
You might be taking off too deep on the wave and getting yourself behind the breaking section. Like others have stated, pumping on a short board is crucial. The standard short board you are mainly surfing the board, whereas a bigger, thicker board will let you surf the wave more. Try analyzing where others are taking off from and make adjustments. You could also be on a super fast wave that is beyond your level. Remember that when you start bogging or getting behind the crumbling section bend your knees and crouch. The lower center of gravity will increase your speed and stability through those parts. As for standing up, do it! Have confidence! Just don't stand up all stiff and tall. Remember all sports require the "sports stance", bent knees, legs shoulder width apart, straight back. Lead all your turns with your head and follow with shoulders and hips. Get aggressive and throw your weight into it. It will take a while but you'll get it.
@kylebodenham49113 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! I honestly think the best thing you can do is just have fun. It makes such a difference to your surfing. Keep surfing and having fun. Your surfing will improve by itself. You’ll learn where you can go on the wave and get a feel for how to do it. Also, You usually go where your eyes are looking, as well as where your front arm/shoulder is pointing so try that🤙
