Follow me along for my first playthrough of Outer Wild - Echoes of the Eye! I found some secret places!? WHERE DO THEY GO?!
If you didn't already know; I play games partially with my feet using the Xbox Adaptive Controller. This is because I struggle to grip/use traditional control schemes due to my spondyloarthritis. The ship's controls in zero gravity are very challenging with many simultaneous inputs, so for this, I'm also playing using my KNEES (yes really! haha)
We play the game twice a week on Twitch, so come watch along live!

Feel free to make suggestions here: helloitskolo.com/suggest/ As for Outer Wilds; et me know your thoughts on this - I know it may not be a popular opinion but I kept it real and that's all I can say! haha! Also, so sorry for the delay on releasing this final episode: I moved house (200 miles away) this week and everything has truly been chaos! Enjoy the final episode!

And to think that the Prisoner's decision to shut down the cloaking device led to the Nomai's discovery of the Eye, and ultimately the chance for a new universe to be created. Whereas the rest of the Owlfolks' fear of the unknown might have doomed the universe's ability to be reborn, a single moment of curiosity and compassion led the way for the Nomai to construct the Ash Twin Project, and for a single Hearthian to put it all together. I think about this game a lot, even a year after completing it.

To be fair to the owlk peeps at the time they discovered the eye of the universe there was still hundreds of millennia of life left in the stars of their universe, it makes sense that they would not want anyone to destroy the entire universe and kill everything in existence. Even if doing so would create a brand new baby universe there was no point in doing so when the universe was still young and healthy.

Like it might be an unpopular opinion but I think that the punishment for the prisoner was justified considering how he could have caused the destruction of the entire universe

_"Whereas the rest of the Owlfolks' fear of the unknown might have doomed..."_ No. It was not fear of unknown. The Eye of the universe was a mystery to nomai, but not to Owls. The Owls sealed the Eye because they were not ready to put up with the demise of their species and wanted to prolong their existence as long as possible. By the way, they knew perfectly well that the Eye would create a new universe, but this fact seemed of little interest to them, because they would not be there anyway. Do you remember the slide reel where the Eye show it's true purpose to Owl using vision torch? Do you remember where the story of the Eye ends? On a skull overgrown with grass! But that's not true. There was a sequel and the Owls cut it out of the movie. Not burned, but cut out. We can find this sequel in the burnt temple while in virtual reality. There we will find the missing frame, where we see that a flower grows out of this skull, and galaxies fly out of the flower like pollen. The Owls knew everything perfectly well, but they didn't want to put up with the fact that they had to extinct.

@@tecorp7 As I remember they don't have private houses. This is literally the missing frame of the movie. If you watch this movie, it shows that a flower grew out of the skull. Watch the slide reel again.

Congrats on getting through, and kudos to piecing together the timeline based on Dark Bramble in the slides. The fact there is ghost matter around also plays into this. I find it hilarious you found all the hidden locations without the maps. Since you're through, I don't consider these spoilers anymore: 1) When you have the scout launcher equipped, you have photo mode available. Photo mode allows you to *SEE* ghost matter, the crystals only indicates the general area. Tutorial stuff. 2) You didn't solve the tower puzzle. Something to do about the lights in both worlds. Puzzle was even made easier in the later patches compared to what it used to be. 3) Should you do the ending again, be sure to look outside when The Vessel is located at the Eye before you open the warp. Can also be seen from the surface of the Eye for a while. I love the DLC because it answers the question "why did the eye disappear", a very important and recurring theme throughout the main game, tying it neatly into the main game rather than being a completely separate storyline. I also love it for the puzzles being a bit harder, and that they usually have multiple solutions. The puzzles are also very well crafted, where the solution is really in the simple things. A game with puzzles that isn't frustrating isn't a very good puzzle game. Skyrim "puzzles" are absolutely horrible. You even did one in a way that I don't think anyone else have done before. Another one is the spookies in the mansion can be skipped: 1) Create the bridge with lights on, cross the bridge, and get to the elevator. Take the elevator down and jump in the water to exit the simulation. 2) Go back in from same place and extinguish the lights. Jump in the water to exit the simulation. 3) Go back in from another point, create a raft and get to the now accessible elevator. Take the elevator up and you're on the safe side of the non existent bridge. No bridge needed. 4) Only the guy at the bottom which can easily be out-run to get to the archives. I'cw only seen this happen once though. Even if done the hard way, you can out-smart the enemy, and it isn't that hard to figure out how to do it. Most players do, while some struggle like crazy with the spooky parts.

While I think the DLC's story and ending are just as beautiful as the base game once you actually uncover them, I agree that the DLC is much more frustrating. The thing is that the base game is all about exploration, whereas the DLC destroys that adventurous tone the instant you step into the Dream world. I don't mind that there are things you need to evade, but the darkness is just too much--even when I didn't have Pursuers to worry about, I still got lost in the dark *constantly*. It is immensely frustrating to know that you have to get from point A to point B, but not be able to figure it out for several loops because you're stuck navigating a maze in the dark, under a time limit. I wound up having to enable the "reduced frights" at one point just to slow the Pursuers down enough for me to navigate the area beneath the Well. Prior to that, I knew what I needed to do, but could *not* do it. And any time I had to run away from the Pursuers in the dark, I'd lose my place again. That said, I still love the DLC in general, because Outer Wilds is just that beautiful. I'm super happy that you stuck with it. Maybe you could take a break and break and play a game like The Looker, which is free on steam. It's a puzzle game that's a parody of The Witness. There's no story to uncover, and nothing to really take seriously, so you can be much more free about asking actual questions of chat.

I have to admit I was only able to get through the DLC with the "Lighter Dreams" Mod, which makes the Dream World much less dark and easier to navigate.

I think too that the Owlks are just not relatable in the same way the Nomai are, because you can't read anyone's dialogue or come to care about individuals (other than the Prisoner, and that's only at the very end) the way you can with the Nomai. And I think it's safe to say that Kolo prefers games with characters you can identify with. (Even if, as with the Nomai, they've been dead for 280,000 years.)

@@DaveLHThey are not relatable beucase the ending was played before, so you know from the start that their view of the eye is wrong. That's why I advise any new player to play the DLC just before doing the ending

I enjoyed watching although I felt some of that frustration which I didn't like (darn it empathy 😠) Not frustration at you not knowing the solution (you got them quicker than me and without hints) but frustration from you feeling frustrated and not enjoying the game as I wanted you to do for me to be able to selfishly re-experience my favorite game by living vicariously through you. I'm glad that you didn't actually finish it though, I feel like the game didn't deserve it considering how it made you feel. Yes it's sort of unlucky that the Kolo way can get you to unlock a part of the game too soon which adds to the frustration of not knowing what to do because you're not supposed to be there yet, but I feel like that is definitely an L on the dev's part and it's not your fault or your ADHD or non like that. In the main game I feel like it was way harder to Kolo your way through it, devs blew it. Skill issue, I guess they forgot how to outer the Wilds by the time they started making the DLC? 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I absolutely disagree that the developers are to blame for the “high chance of accidentally ending up in a place where you shouldn’t be at this stage of the DLC.” Completing the main game using Kolo way is much more difficult precisely because the pieces of one puzzle are scattered throughout the solar system and you will need to bypass many riddles on each planet in order to eventually reach the finale. In the DLC, the developers needed to fit a puzzle with the complexity of 2/3 of the puzzle from the main game into a small spaceship, which was no larger in diameter than Brittle Hollow. The developers tried very hard and created a really high-quality hidden puzzle in the DLC, which, unfortunately, is difficult to understand and complete, as intended, if a person forgets about certain aspects of the game (which happened often in the case of Kolo). So the fact that she got a bad feeling from completing the DLC is not the fault of the developers and certainly not Kolo's fault, it just happens when part of the game did not suit the player.

Some stats about hidden vault seal (2:32:00) that pretty much ruined the entire experience for Kolo: Ep4(31:56) - Identified Ep5(1:32:10) - In front of the puzzle "I can't figure it out chat..." Ep7(1:12:25) - First location - "...I thought I was on the most fruitless mission ever!" Ep9(51:35) - Second location - "... whaaaaat was that?" Ep10(37:02) - Third location - "I SWEAR. If I get to the whatever the next step in the story, and it's like HERE IS THE MAP. I'll tell you what. I'm gonna RIOT." 6 entire episodes to painfully find these locations without the maps :(

I never finished the DLC either. I find the overall story of the stranger to be good and interesting, but, I just couldn't get into it. It was just a lot to slog through for the limited story line. I think part of the problem is it all takes place inside the stranger. So. No ship. just you walking around this construct the entire time. Just didn't have the same feel.

I think for me it was just so, so linear. You had to do things in order and it felt super restricted, compared to what I loved about the base game; I could go anywhere, explore, at any time, in any order, and piece it all together!

It's always interesting to see what resonates people and what completely turns them off. Like logistically, I know so many people who LOVE Skyrim (including you!), and it's one of the most multi-platform ports of all time. But I had SUCH an awful experience the first time I played it that I have a persistent revulsion to it. Or the Witcher: people love all the adaptions and when they hear my genre is fantasy RPG tell me that I *must* play the Witcher games, but because I didn’t play them when they were newer I don’t have the nostalgia factor to get me past the bad graphics, clunky gameplay, grossly misogynistic universe, and unpleasant and morose main character. In any case, I hope that whatever you play next you really enjoy, and that you feel comfortable with sharing more games with us here on KZbin. I love your playthroughs and I learn a lot from you, but I can't support Twitch so I miss out on a lot. I'll go ahead and send you a tip on KoFi now as thanks.

@S0LAVELLANHELL He whines and complains about everything. Even when I, the player, have chosen to help someone, he the character makes it very clear it's not what he wants to do. You're right that he's very open about his emotions. Unfortunately all those emotions are negative. The only part of 3 I enjoyed were when we got to play as Ciri, and that wasn't enough playable time to make the game worth finishing.

She completely ignored the interact prompt on the bridge controls and tried to jump on the controls LOL. I believe that the "Kolo way" philosophy might be the reason why she gets frustrated by alot of these DLC puzzles. But she did find out alot of the secrets before alot of other let's players by winging it. So the "Kolo Way" has it's advantages and disadvantages.

To be honest, it really amazes me how she finds out things by just winging it, it's just incredible. I mean the solutions are pretty simple after you find them, but I always had to collect all clues and even then it took me some time. That's just wild and kind of impressive, not gonna lie.
