Great Pink Floyd reaction as usual Sarah, you really understand Pink Floyd. David Gilmour's guitar work on this "Animals" album is really incredible, and it's the nucleus of the PF sound, along with the keyboards. Gilmour says so much through his guitar, with the riffs and bends, and phrasing, he is able to emote so many feelings with his guitar. Singing, weeping, anger, screaming, raw and sweet, and many more, he does it like no other guitarist imo. He's not a flashy guitarist, he doesn't play a bajillion notes a minute, and he doesn't run around the stage yelling and jumping up and down like some Rock guitarists. I can't recall if you have reacted to any songs from Pink Floyds 1994 Pulse Concert at Earls Court in London. What an incredible performance that Show was, so many phenomenal performances there, "Comfortably Numb", "Sorrow", "Money", Learning To Fly" and many more. Here is a link I think you might enjoy. It's David Gilmour returning to Pompeii Italy for a live concert,... a return to Pompeii from Pink Floyds 1971 live performance among the ruins. With NO audience in 1971, just the band and some crew members. David Gilmour - Return To Pompeii (Behind The Scenes) - KZbin

"Who was only a stranger at home": Brutal line that so many can relate to. The protagonist in this song is the DOG. The corporate shark that would stab his mother to achieve fortune and notoriety. For me, the most amazing part of the song is the last stanza of lyrics when Roger Waters spits out the description of this man's life from beginning to end and what made him who he was. Genius level composition.
@Varksterable3 жыл бұрын
Consider that brutal? "Just another sad old man. All alone, dieing of cancer." Has haunted me for years and will always do so. Right up until I'm run over by a truck, or something. Social fears have less significance than brutal death. And of course Pink Floyd cater for both here. How kind. This album is astonishing, and this reaction is definitely one of the best I've ever seen too. So thankyou.

I can count on one hand the number of reactors I trust when it comes to deep dives into Pink Floyd tracks, and you are definitely on that list. (I'm not saying that others aren't giving sincere reactions, but I feel like you and a few others really appreciate the music and understand it in a way fans appreciate.) This whole album is another example of Pink Floyd's ability to do different things musically that still have their unique signature and sound as good as the others each time. Animals sounds nothing like Wish You Were Here, which sounds little like The Dark Side of the Moon, which sounds little like The Wall, etc.; but they all sound equally good. This fan still loves your treatment of these songs!

I saw you had "Dogs" cued up, and immediately had to listen. It's such an amazing sonic adventure, and your audio is really clear. The middle part has such incredible electronic keyboard textures; crystalline highs and ocean bottom low seismic bass pulses, etc. It's a real treat to the ears. The other two long songs on Animals, "Pigs (3 different ones)" and "Sheep" are both absolute bangers, and another sonic adventure. Great reaction. It kind of stills time for about 17 mins., eh?

For me this is one of Floyd's best songs! Guitar work is superb and emotive, but the other musicians are instrumental (sorry!!! :) ) in crafting this brilliant track, which, in my opinion, is one of the cleverest, lyrically! My favorite song from my favorite Pink Floyd album. Im pretty sure, but I could be mistaken, that this was an angry response from Roger Waters about the record company executives making more from their music than the band was. But you're reaction to the music, as well as the lyrics, was awesome. You picked up the meaning immediately. Pink Floyd has one of the deepest catalogues you could ever dive into. All of their music is as deep as this. Some deeper. All of it thought provoking. Will make you question yourself.

Good analogy Sarah. Great to watch your reactions. As a Floyd fan for (nearly) 50 years, the lyrics are not only relevant today but the music, style, production, originality is far ahead not just then but now. There's always favourite tracks you can listen to or even the whole album as a complete work, nothing beats having a great audio system or even just headphones, closing your eyes and being absorbed by the perfectiy and talent that is Pink Floyd.

Such great music came out of the '70s. Must have been the times with so much turmoil. Pink Floyd and Genesis were the BEST of the progressive rock bands from that era! My two favorites. Check out Genesis from the 70s. They too play long sections with no lyrics, but also have great lyrics. Fantastic musicians. (the drumming is some of the best in rock)

Pink Floyd could see into the future because they studied the past. For instance, the building on the cover is the old Battersea Power Station that has quite the history. Here is the story behind the subject of this album, which many consider very dark: For this album, Roger Waters draws his inspiration from reading a political fable, Animal Farm, by English writer and essayist George Orwell. In this satirical work published in 1945, the author violently criticizes the excesses of the Soviet regime, then led by Stalin. Each animal on the farm is then seen as the caricature of a great figure of the Bolshevik revolution. The pigs who monopolize power echo Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky and Molotov. The humans including Mr. Jones the farmer who gets run over by pigs is an allegory of Tsar Nicholas II, when his neighbor Mr. Frederick who will make an alliance with Napoleon, (one of the pigs in the fable), is a reference to Hitler and its German-Soviet pact. The pigs therefore take power by driving the men away from the farm. They then establish a political system that will govern the places and oppress other animals. The pigs end up standing on two legs and wearing the clothes of the farmers they hated. The other castes represented in the fable are; horses, cows, chickens, sheep and dogs (the latter are secretly raised by the pig leaders who make them their mastiffs). Waters will take these last two as protagonists to promote the concept of his project. With the exception that the story will not deal with the communist USSR but rather with capitalism and excess liberalism. He then killed two birds with one stone, 1st - beating furiously on the political and economical system, and 2nd - skillfully responding to the virulent criticisms emanating from the punk movement which wanted to be a new banner of social criticism, replacing old outdated rock bands.
