it's the absurdity of extreme wealth in the face of extreme poverty. Pink Floyd never do songs about how hot some chick looks, but they will ask the point of what we think is important in the face of death. Check out "Us and Them" the most chilled out anti war song

They were definitely showing how many suffer for the benefit of others. Though theyoversimplify a bit, it's a valid commentary. (Just a side note, the biblical phrase isn't that "money is the root of all evil", but that the "love [worship, pursuit] of money is the root of all kinds of evil", it's a subtle but significant difference. )

Great reaction, you got it. Money is all about haves and have nots. The haves in the first half of the song buy football teams and Leer jets on a whim. At the same time, when the have nots ask for a rise in pay or charity, there's suddenly no money left to give away. It's just a critique of the ultra-wealthy living lavishly while regular people are forced to barely subsist.

Great video LayedBak! You were right, the song is about money being the prime motivator for many people in society, and the outlook that imposes upon them. As others have said, the whole album is a concept album (as are several of their others) where every song has a specific theme, but they all tie together into a greater narrative. I'd personally suggest watching a lyric video next time you do Pink Floyd (or Tool), since then you can catch all the bars and not be distracted by the visuals. Again, great video, hope to see more! It also had signs of the diamond mines, the exploitation that occurs to get this "glorified" money that they talk about that everyone wants. Getting the levels of wealth talked about rarely comes for free and it's important to think about where it comes from and who you're affecting by living that type of lifestyle.

You should do a full reaction to "Dark Side of the Rainbow" When I was growing up in the 90s it was a huge thing to get twisted out of your gourd and try to time the start of this album (Dark Side of the Moon) and the movie "The Wizard of Oz" so that they were in perfect sync. A few years later a project was released called "The Dark Side of The Rainbow" where it was already perfectly cued. This song is one of the more memorable moments in that sync up because the second Dorothy walks out of the house in the land of Oz is when that first "MOOOOOOONEY!" hits and it is so perfect.
