i was born in 1969… i remember this song from 1976 growing up in Michigan. I’ll never forget those days.

Michigan here too. Just this morning i was recalling a time when Band on the Run was playing on the radio. I was in the side yard of a friend's house, playing frisbee, when the song came on. At that moment, all was well with the world. He's long gone now, but i have that memory of when we were young.

I was like 12 yrs old and my brother had this 45. I'd sit there and play it over and over I didn't know it was about a dog til I was 30 That's when the lyrics made sense I still love this song

Thanks so much for reacting to my suggestion! It's probably not very well known these days but was a US radio hit in the late '70s. Take care and stay safe!

I like my interpretation😇, that original story does nothing for me emotionally 🤷♂️

Actually, Gross tells the story behind this song, and Shannon was an Irish Setter owned by Wilson of the Beach Boys, that had been struck by a car and killed. Gross, coincidently, also had an Irish Setter by the name of Shannon. Gross wrote the song as a tribute to Wilson's dog.
