We had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the BMW F800GT! Mark and Toby take a ride and talk about the bike and how they find it. Although not a bike for them, it is a fab little bike that would suit many different styles of riders. Hope you enjoy the video!
Thanks to Ocean BMW for allowing us to borrow their bike for the review.
If you liked the video, remember to give us a thumbs up as it helps a ton, and don't forget to subscribe too, so you don't miss anything!

I’m not sure what Panniers they were referring to, but they’re big enough to put a full size helmet. I can pack a week of clothes and belongings in them. The stupid comments about the fuel gauge only able to read from half tank. It’s a rear fuel tank and a very odd shape it impossible to get an accurate fuel level. BMW made the decision to measure from the half point in the fuel tank and it is quite accurate. It is mentioned in the owners manual had someone taken the time to read the thing. I do have one, the rear suspension is electronically adjustable, and ASC is great. The talk about getting up to 60 mph weird it has sub 4 sec to 60 mph . On paper it pretty much mirrors the K100RS same torque and pretty much the same power. Where I live the F800GT is pretty rare and turns heads where ever it goes.

I was just sat here watching your video, I just occurred to me that is my actual bike. I saw the licence plate and I was looking at it thinking that look familiar lol hahaha brought it from ocean BMW too hahaha. I've named the bike Gabby, hopefully I shall be riding her to Finland to see my sister a nice 3000mile trip each way haha

Almost 90NM at 5800 rpm, 213kg wet, belt. Rotax engine 3.4L at 90km /h. Brembo 320mm disc, electronic sunspension, TC and mode ride and single arm. This bike is still in my opinion the best middle weight sport tourer ! I hope Bmw prepare next generation GT.

I run a f800gt and I tour all round Europe every year full loaded , it will cruise at 90 mph all day and I never get less than 155 miles from the 15 ltr tank. as for the petrol guage only reading from half way is because of the shape of the tank and its only accurate once you get to half..

"as for the petrol guage only reading from half way is because of the shape of the tank and its only accurate once you get to half" To be fair, I have found this on nearly every motorcycle (with a fuel gauge) I have ridden - including my 1500 Goldwing.

My F800GT aint no e wet fart. It makes 90BHP but is torquey where you need it. Belt drive so no crappy chain to oil & adjust. Just get on & ride it properly. If you need them, & I assume if you ride like a wet fart, you won't need the superb Brembo brakes.

+johnnyboy668 very true matey. Don't think we referred to the bike in that way though. A good bike but for me not my sort of bike but as we said in the video a very capable bike that would suit many riders. That's what I love about bikes, there is one for everyone :)

I would say basic motorcycling is the best way. Too many bells and whistles distract the rider from the bike riding experience itself. Not supposed to be a PlayStation but a physical experience. Any bike with 500cc or more I believe should be just fine touring thru Europe in a very relaxed manner. This Beemer is more than capable of course as is any other Sports Tourer +.

This was my first BMW bike. Good commuter bike as i used to do 110 miles per day. I agree it was jerky at low speed. Did not get used to the petrol gauge.

I've had one of these for three years, 18000 miles so far, and it is a brilliant bike! Fast enough, great torque means I never get less than 65 mpg. It will accelerate up and beyond 100 mph no problem, at legal UK speeds it is always planted and stops on a sixpence. I have an aftermarket screen and have raised the bars on mine so it's more comfortable on long trips. It's cheap to run and is good quality. Highly recommended!

Nice bike. But for the same price I get the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 WITH panniers. Okay that has chaindrive but equiped with a 1000 cc with plenty power and torque. My choice wont be the BMW with those cards.

BMW give you the option of two types of panniers, the smaller sport panniers and the larger 'normal' panniers. I think you were referring to the smaller grey sport panniers. I have a pair of sport panniers on my 2015 F800R. They expand and will fit quite a bit of luggage.

Bought one of these 6 months ago and although it handles well plenty of power and great brakes, I truly believe it's in the wrong category. Not comfortable on trips longer than 50 miles unless you raise the bars, I have a tall screen fitted and the wind noise is still horrendous its more sports than mid weight tourer in my opinion.

Owned one for a year and did 30,000kms on it. Rode it in harsh conditions and it took it like a champ. It was a great sports tourer but eventually felt underpowered so I sold it.

I live the U.S. and I had a Gt for 2.5 years. the 2 biggest down falls of this bike here in the states are for one the price, by the time you get everything paid for its close to if not 15,000 dollars and for what the bike is that's way to much money. Second thing is its under powered for the cost. I personally think it looks to much like the old ST model. I was hoping that by now Bmw would have given th GT a performance upgrade and a more modern up to date look to help it sell better in the states but it didn't happen and in all likelihood won't.
@RiderCamTV
@RiderCamTV 7 жыл бұрын
+petearchie61 it would be nice for them to remodel it but it might encroach on their rs model I guess :( Ride safe matey :)
@petearchie61
@petearchie61 7 жыл бұрын
the really bad thing is that the F800gt and f800r are both supposed to be entry level bikes, Who charges (besides BMW) 15,000 thousand dollars for a entry level bike and simply refuses to upgrade it despite what more the half the market (here in the United States) says it needs. It may the reason why there are 3 of them ( a 2015 demo, a 2016 and a 20170) at the dealership here and they cant sell them but yet have little trouble selling other bikes that cost even more. At the end of the year (2016) I bought a new k1300s for 1000 dollars more and lower interest rate then what it would have cost me for a 2016 or 2017 F800gt. And my payments are about the same.
@RiderCamTV
@RiderCamTV 7 жыл бұрын
its crazy really isn't it. Although a good little bike, the price point doesn't seem to fit in the right place! I bet the K1300s is a great bike ;)
@petearchie61
@petearchie61 7 жыл бұрын
Yes it is and although I got many compliments on the f800gt now that I have the K3 I get many more on it. I believe I made a good choice to get the K3, but sad to say the K3 has or had the same problem as the f800gt, Kawasaki and Suzuki both did some performance upgrades to their super bikes although bmw classifies the k1300s as a sport touring bike it is capable of 200 mph which to me makes it a super bike and judging from the increase in my insurance so does my insurance company. The thing that bugs me most about bmw bikes is that if isn't a adventure touring bike or one they stick that unattractive boxer motor on they wont do any kind of upgrades to it. the f800gt will probably be discontinued before its ever upgraded again, and as far as the k1300s goes its already been discontinued. Any bike in the bmw line up that isn't a s1000rr or a adventure touring bike and just maybe the f800r since it classified as entry level should probably be put on the endangered species list.
@RiderCamTV
@RiderCamTV 7 жыл бұрын
+petearchie61 not surprising the insurance company hiked the price. Any excuse for them isn't it! Very true about the upgrades but the K3 has a sweet engine but I guess the boxer is their flagship engine (which I know doesn't help people on bikes like yourself) but you made a good choice. Ride safe matey :)

I love my F800GT, it's got enough power in everyday real world riding, super economical and if you've got the skills can keep up with most things on the road. Colin Chapman was an exponent of light weight and power at Lotus.

I have the naked F800R 2015 model. Fabulous open road bike (I've fitted a small screen from MRA) but it's fantastic in the twisties. Handling and brakes are excellent and you can really throw the bike around.

I bought a 2017 model 2500 miles 2 weeks ago. My first bike for 35 years, regretting every minute. Things vibrates terrible, white finger after 10 minutes, screen is too short so buffeted by the wind , pegs are too high and back too much , oh and you need to carry step Ladders to get on it.gearbox is from a Russian tractor, bars are too low, it's supposed to be a tourer. Weighs an absolute tonnes rediculous for a premium brand. Don't want to ride it anymore , dealer said all issues can be fixed , well sorry BMW should have sorted it before going to market with it I ain't paying to fix there mess. Back to the bus , it can rot in the back garden.
