As an engineer, I was taught that precision costs money, and that unnecessary precision is just a waste of money. So it's nice to see craftspeople who throw those rules to the side, and do a superb job, just for the joy of it.

23:30 To get a more consistent pressure on the gauge, you can add a small buffer tank near the output of the regulator -- in _exactly_ the same way you'd add a capacitor to the output of a voltage regulator.

+1 thats what i have at work. Air is supplied from the tank with no restrictions and the regulator refills the tank. Turns a large intermittent flow into a smaller constant flow.

I got to tour Detroit Diesel one time where they make engines for dump trucks and stuff. For the connecting rods, they don't cut the clamping part in half, they laser scribe it and break it into 2 pieces after the bore has been machined. You end up with two pieces that perfectly fit and key together.

At 10:37 in, an alternative clamping method is to turn the precision button you made for centering the bore into an arbor. Create a threaded, counter sunk central thru hole in the button along with 2 perpendicular cuts in the face of the button deep enough to allow the quadrants to flex minutely outward when a flathead screw pushes on the countersink. The flex will provide clamping action. The part can now be milled with no clamps in the way.

The cause of the effect that tightening the strap bolts loosens the fit on the eccentric may also be that machining the strap has released some casting stresses and removing the bolts allows the ends of the strap halves to bow in a bit (due to the relieved stress). Tightening the bolts again presses the mating faces against each other and forces the strap back to its shape when the hole was turned and faced.
