I’ve been deciding from doing a masters program to going straight to Caribbean medical school, I am SOOO glad I ran into your video!! Everything else I’ve watched has been focused on the negatives of choosing that path, this is the first one that has shown that putting in that WORK pays off. Thank you so much and I wish you nothing but success!!!
@wsheri113 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for reaching out! Yeah I mean everything has its pros/cons but I ultimately ended up where I wanted to be regardless of the route I picked. It doesn't necessarily matter what route you take (especially with primary care choices), its more about yourself and what you think is best. Once you make up in your mind it is something you want....the rest will follow because you are going to put the work in! I definitely did not have a "easy" pathway, but I still made it and MATCHED to my #1 choice! So I would say outweigh the pros/cons for yourself and see what route YOU want to take. GOOD LUCK!

@junebug82413 жыл бұрын
@@javi9527 did you apply? I'm planning on applying this summer as well. It's so hard to decide if I should take the jump and go to Carribean school especially with high attrition rates, step 1 becoming P/F, Step 2 CS getting cancelled :/ there's so much to consider now.
@javi95273 жыл бұрын
@@junebug8241 i feel your pain. I did not apply yet, and my thoughts the same as yours. With all the changes going on I’m not sure if I’m willing to risk it, at least not at the moment. I’m applying to aaccelerated masters focused on med students and then apply to US med schools. Hopefully I’ll get accepted in one and if not then I’ll go the Caribbean route. Like you said, there is so much to consider so my advice would be to go to a Caribbean school as the last option. Have you looked into a masters? There are great ones that can help you get into med school. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for this! I got MERP'd and am about 4 weeks out from finishing it before transitioning to the island in September. And I think my learning style is more like yours, just repetitively going back through the material, flash cards aren't for me. Also, I so appreciate you making it clear we have an option to view the lectures through Panopto, we're using that now. Because I have a wedding to go to in November and knowing I can still watch those lectures really gave me some peace of mind. 🙌🙌🙌

@wsheri114 жыл бұрын
Good question, they are currently online for the basic sciences and I believe that they will be making the transition back to Barbados in the upcoming weeks. Schools across the US are currently online as well and even have had a virtual white coat ceremony. However, students in 3rd/4th year (like myself) have already made the transition back into the hospitals to complete their rotations. The transition has been across the board have been arduous for US MD and US IMG, however both are making as much progress as they can in spite of a pandemic. I hope that answers your question.
