Is your child speaking in one word phrases?
Are they mixing up me, my, and I? For example, saying "Me want ball" ?
This educational video teaches the most common first sentences and useful phrases for toddlers! The emphasis is on using the first person "I" with various verbs to really give a thorough modeling experience of this concept in a fun and interactive way. Little melodies invented by Teacher Jen are found throughout to help make the video more interesting and fun, and of course, so silly!
@growyoursong is full of research-based educational content for your little one.
Notice that Teacher Jen uses many function carrier phrases such as "I want ___" "I need __"and "Let's ___". These help a child meet their needs by expressing what they want (and don't want!), as well as learning early social skills by using the inviting 'let's__' as a starter.
You can practice with your child by modeling these same phrases with their favourite items, lego, iPad, cars, etc. You can increase practice by just giving things one at a time, or for iPad, pausing it periodically so they can ask for more.
Give lots of praise for talking! "Wow, good job asking for more lego!"
You can also echo back what they said and add a word. For example, if they say "I want car!" you can repeat "You want the car? Want red car?" etc.
Teacher Jen also models how to play with some common toys such as cars and a slide, and animals on a farm. Learn colours and animal sounds, as well as some play actions! This is beneficial for little ones who don't instinctively have ideas for how to play with certain toys, that may become interested once they see a model.
WH questions (who, what, where, why etc) start to emerge in the toddler years, so Teacher Jen has also included some examples of these. Who is at the door? Where is the rabbit? Why do we drink water? She follows up with the answer to these so children can learn the pattern for how to respond.
