First start and break in Honda EU2200i

How to properly break in and store new generator the easy way.
Don't bother to unscrew the spark plug and ad oil strait to the engine, these gens come preoiled already.
It is not a good idea to store it for longer then six months. If the exiting capacitor will be discharged over longer storage time, the gen will not produce any power until it is manually recharged again.

Pro Tip: Using a towel under the oil valve while draining/filling the oil will help prevent spilling inside the unit.

Hi Vlad, thanks for videos. Don't worry about negative comments, you can not please everybody. I always say "haters gonna hate" (ツ) 🤘I like your tip about using ethynol free fuel if you not going to use all the fuel, todays fuel containing ethynol, if stored in generator can absorb moisture and cause tarnish in carberator. Instead of expensive canned fuel, sometimes gas stations will have ethynil free Supreme grade fuel that is still good gas

It's a waste of oil and a waste of time to follow this approach. I did it and even let the engine run for 90 minutes, and the hot oil was not dirty when removed. My conclusion is that new quality engines are so good they don't have to be break in. If it is a very cheap china engine then maybe, but this Honda EU2200i does not need breaking in.

The rings need load to properly seat. A good break-in would involve bouts of low/medium/high load and appropriate (non-synthetic) break-in oil

At 1 hour without a load, I changed the oil. I did this again and again... It has 7 hours and Ive changed the oil every hour after running it without any load. When I get to 10 hours, I will start putting a small load on it and change the oil every 2 hours..slowly adding a heavier load. I use 10w-30 full synthetic oil

I just ran mine for an hour no load and changed the oil then ran a 1500w load for 3 hours and changed it again

Very good detail and explaining why in most spots. There are a couple of areas that you need to provide more detail and close up camera shots, and an explanation why. For instance, you need to point out that if the oil is not at the exact required level there is a sensor that will keep the engine from starting. Assume we know nothing because I knew nothing and the oil level requirement was a frustration point. This was a very useful video.

Hi, good video and thanks for the info. I only use non-ethanol gas in all my engines. We have a non-ethanol gas station 2 miles from my house. I would change my oil after 1 hour, sounds good. Only about 14 oz. 👍 Nice posters!!!!!

I think it did based on a small black mark inside the cover as shown on the Honda website. Thanks, Dave.

Okay, your serial number is very close to the serial number when they catch that so if this unit was still in factory or warehouse it was most likely repaired before it left the Honda factory. I just google it. But that is a good point, thank you for bringing it to my attention.

no need to break in the new eu2200i, honda does this at the factory for you, I just bought one and called honda to confirm this. No where in the manual does it say anything about breaking it in

I wouldn't be so sure. After one hour of running the Honda gen the oil was very dirty, not normal for properly broken in generator. But it's your gen, do whatever you pleased with it.

Joe Foland Sorry to tell you but it’s not true. I just got a new EU2200i and before I started it up, I swapped the dip stick with a magnetic one. After 30 minutes, there was A LOT of shavings stuck to the magnet. After another 30 minutes, far less metal filings but still evenly covers the entire face of the magnet. I’ve only ran it for an hour so far but I’m pretty sure that on my next 30 minute break in oil change, I’ll still see shavings.

Vlad have you noticed that the 2200 runs slightly rough on eco mode ? I’ve brought mine into Honda they say not to worry about it , had the carb cleaned , tried gapping the plug to spec , non ethanol fuel . Just has a slight hesitation every few seconds .

Yes I did noticed it the very first time I got EU2200i. I had about four of them since then and all of them are the same so I wouldn't vory about it too much.

I ended up fixing this last night because I have to mess with everything . The pilot screw / fuel screw with the tamper proof tab on it , grinded it off with a Dremel . Factory screw is set to 3/4 of a turn out running lean for emissions . I turned it to 2 turns out (adding fuel ) and that was smooth running .

Thank you, Vlad. That was exactly what I needed to get mine going out of the box. I ran it low for the first hour and emptied the oil into a white bucket and you were absolutely right. There were several flecks of particles! I then ran it another two hours and just plugged a fan into it on eco. I am off and running! Thanks.

Ethanol free gas is good gas, just harder to find. Some fuel companies. carry a ethanol free Supreme blend at special fuel dispenser

You could install an inline shutoff valve to shut fuel off why generator still runs burning fuell in floatbowl. Problems occur on small engines if ethanol blended fuel is stored in them. Generators different than weed eater or chainsaw in that when in use fuel gets stored in unit. You can use cheaper gas if you plan on running engine dry before storing. Even with inline petcock, fuel in generators tank could go bad if stored for long periods of time. Petcock would just eliminate draining floatbowl on carborater before storing. Another cool modification can be an hour meter, to track usage🤘(ツ)
